“I missed you so much, baby. I can’t even think about…” His voice breaks and he trails off.

I lean back and tilt his chin with my fingers so he’s looking at me.

“You can’t think about what?”

He sighs. “My life without you in it.” He presses a kiss on my forehead. “We need to talk, but not right now. I’ll grab you that sandwich.”

He climbs off the bed and crosses the room, stopping when he gets to the door. “I won’t be long.”

“Okay,” I whisper, watching him walk out and close the door behind him.

I bring my hand up over my eyes and burst into tears. I know for him it’s been five weeks and I can’t imagine what he’s been through in that time, but for me, it’s like I only found out about Sophie yesterday. I still haven’t gotten my head around it, and with everything that’s happened in between, I don’t know when I will.

A few minutes later, there’s a knock on the door. Knowing everyone’s left and that Seb probably wouldn’t knock, I have no idea who it is. I wipe my eyes and sit up.

“Come in,” I call out. I watch the door, my hand flying to my mouth when Sophie walks in with a baby in her arms. “You had the baby?” I ask, my eyes dropping to the bundle wrapped in blue. “A boy?” She nods. “When?”

She smiles. “A couple of days ago. He was a little early, so we’re staying for a few days, but he’s perfect.”

“What’s his name?”

“Hunter.”

“I love it. I’m so happy for you and Cade.” And I am. Regardless of Seb’s feelings for her, she’s my friend and I know what she went through to have Hunter.

“Thank you. How are you feeling? You gave us a scare.” She sits in the chair next to my bed and reaches for my hand. “We were all so worried about you.”

“I’m okay.”

She frowns. “Are you sure? It looks like you’ve been crying.”

I look down at my hands and fiddle with the edge of the blanket that covers me. “It’s all a little overwhelming, that’s all.”

“I can’t even imagine, Taylor. You’ve been through so much.” She pauses. “I thought Seb might be here.”

“He is. I asked him to get me a sandwich from the cafeteria.”

She nods. “You know he slept at the hospital every night you were here?”

I look at her and raise my eyebrows in confusion. “He never said.”

“Some of the nurses took pity on him and let him stay in here with you. Others didn’t, and he slept in the waiting room. I think he went home twice in the whole five weeks and only then because Tessa made him.”

“Why would he do that? He can’t have slept well in weeks.”

“I’d have thought that was obvious. He loves you.” She squeezes my hand. “Taylor, whatever he felt for me, it’snothingcompared to how he feels for you.”

My eyes widen. “He told you?” I whisper, nerves swirling in my stomach.

She nods. “He told us both.”

“Cade knows as well? Why?”

“You’ll have to ask Seb that.”

I bite my lip as I take in what she’s telling me. I can’t get my head around why he’d say anything. What does he have to gain from telling them now? Unless he thought I was going to tell them. I frown.

“I know what you’re thinking, Taylor. He didn’t tell us because he thought you might.”
