"Ms. Sayers, if you could come up here with me I'd greatly appreciate it." A couple of people start to mutter a few things under their breath but I don't bother to address anything yet. My mother whips her head in my direction and I know she has an idea as to what is going to happen.

Ella's face gets bright red and she points to herself like she must have misheard me.

"Yes Ella." I say and put my hand out for her to come. I can see her mouth moving, and though I can't hear what it is she's saying it looks like it's along the lines of, kill me now, god kill me now.

My woman is not very keen on public speaking.

I wait until she gets close to me before I step out from behind the podium.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm not sure if you are aware but this insanely talented woman, Ms. Ella Sayers, is the mastermind behind the wonderful article that ran in the Times about the company and my family. Before I met her I was under the impression that I had to be a force, a figurehead to the people in the community, someone held to a different standard. She helped me see that I'm better off serving you as a real person. That I have faults and cares similar to everyone else. She helped me see that life is more than just work, and news articles. Now that the article has been out for the world to see I think my plan for the foreseeable future is to be true to myself and I think I'm going to start by showing the world and the woman I love the most vulnerable parts of me. " I pull the ring that I bought out of my pocket and get down on my knee.

"Holy crap. What's happening? Yup, I'm dying. I'm dead. What are you doing? Percy!" Ella hisses at me and I laugh at her discomfort.

"Oh, this is how you get out of the dog house? Good job!" Carrie screams out and I wipe my hand down my face to stop the laughter.

"Ella Sayers, you have changed my life in ways that I've never thought possible. You've shown me what really living is and now that I've been here with you I can't think about trying to go on without you. Ella, will you do me the greatest honor of being my wife." I open the box and show her the ring and she stands there looking at me.

Her mouth opens and a high pitched squeak comes out.

"Ella! Words baby!" Carrie says loudly and all the press laughs.

'Yes! oh goodness, are you sure? Too late, you can't take it back. Yes!" Ella drops down and wraps her arms around my neck. I stand and kiss her hard on the mouth and a round of applause roars in the background. The sound dulls as I pull her away from me and see the happiness in her eyes.

In all the time that I've been chasing the next lead, trying to be the first to get the best breaking story, Ella Sayers tracking me down and blackmailing me into an interview is the best news I've ever had.

Epilogue

Six monthslater

"Ella, did you see Pierre? The fucking pastry chef is awall and no one back there no one back there knows what he did with the mini Pecan tarts we have on special." Ian grabs hold of my arm and stops my forward progress. The sudden whiplash makes me dizzy.

"No, I haven't seen him. Can we substitute for something else?" I ask and watch as Ian goes silent for a second as he goes over the menu in his head I'm assuming. Ian has been going non-stop to get the restaurant up and running and today is the grand opening. We've invited so many different people along with the community to come and before we even properly announced the opening, the reservations were completely booked.

Ian did end up taking over as the head chef and as much as he may not believe it, Ian is made for this. He runs this restaurant like a tight ship. Everyone does what they're supposed to and he's as domineering in the kitchen as Percy is in the newsroom. Even his father has come out to support him today.

The relationship between the two of them is still strained but it's better than what it was.

"Ella! What the hell is going on? It's a madhouse in here." Carrie comes rushing up behind Ian and he turns abruptly bumping her on the way.

"Carrie, must you scream all the time?" Ian shakes his head as he catches her before she topples backwards to the ground.

"Why would I whisper? Be honest, you just want to get close to me don't you?" She shoots Ian a wink but he simply huffs out a breath and walks away too consumed in the opening to entertain the back and forth that he and my best friend usually engage in.

"You know one day he's going to surprise the hell out of you and take you up on all those innuendos." I raise an eyebrow at her and she just shrugs her shoulders like she wouldn't care. I know that's a lie. Honestly I think if Ian was to show any real interest in Carrie she'd run off.

"Do you think we'll be... Oh holy wet panties, who is that sex god?" Carrie's eyes go wide and she stares at someone over my shoulder.

She's shocked, the woman is never shocked.

I turn quicker than I should to see who she's talking about.

It's Linc. "Oh my goodness you made it!" I squeal and start walking in his direction. Carrie stays so close to my hip, I'm surprised neither one of us fall over.

"Of course I did, I just saw Percy outside, screaming at people as per usual." He chuckles deeply.

"Oh fuck...drip , drip, drip." Carrie whispers behind me and I choke on my own spit. I'm laughing so hard. I'm assuming her wet panties have everything to do with Linc. I guess it makes sense for me to introduce them.
