“No,” he said, “but that’s why we’re going to figure out what you really want to do with your life.”

“I guess so. I guess maybe I’ll fall in love with the Amazon and want to be an explorer or something.”

“I don’t really want you to be an explorer,” he said, making a face.

“Why is that?” I said.

“Because then you’d be exploring around the world and I’d be based in New York, and I’d rarely get to see you.”

“Would that make you sad?” I teased.

“Yeah,” he said, nodding. “I want to see you as often as possible. If I’m honest, that’s the main reason I wanted you to be my assistant.”

“So you did choose me?”

“Of course I chose you. I’m the CEO.”

“And you chose me because?”

“Like I just said, Molly, there was something about you that I couldn’t get out of my head, and I wanted to see you every day.”

“But if I’m not your assistant, I won’t.”

“Yeah, but maybe we can still see each other as frequently as possible,” he said, reaching down and touching the side of my face. “You know I’m beginning to fall in love with you, right?”

“No, you’re not. Stop teasing.”

“I know it seems weird, and it seems early, but I’ve got to go with my feelings. I’ve got to go with how I feel.”

“You know something, Travis Covington?”

“Uh-oh. What?” he said, frowning slightly.

“I used to think that you were a jackass. I used to think that even though you were handsome and rich and had the most dazzling blue eyes I’d ever seen in my life, something had to bewrong with you. You couldn’t be everything I was looking for in a man. I said to myself, ‘You’re close, but you’re not quite perfect.’ But you know what?”

“No,” he said. “What?”

“I was wrong.” I smiled at him. “I was really, really wrong. I thought you were Mr. Not Quite Perfect, but you’re my Mr. Perfect.”

“And you know what, Molly Malone?”

“No. What?”

“You’re my Miss Perfect,” he said. “You’re beautiful and you’re sweet and you’re smart and you’re a good friend and you’re honest, and you’re everything I didn’t even know I was looking for.”

“What do you mean?” I said. “How did you not know you were looking for that?”

“Because I wasn’t looking, period. Love, it’s never been high on my list. I figured one day when I was ready to settle down and have kids, I’d start looking. I’d join one of those exclusive dating apps or find a matchmaker or something. But I guess it’s true what they say. You never know when love is going to strike you.”

I stared at him with wide eyes. “But you said…”

“I know what I said. I said I was starting to think I was falling for you, but that was a lie. I guess I was nervous to tell you the truth.”

“And what’s the truth?” I said through bated breath.

“I know I’m falling in love with you, Molly Malone. You are the purest, best thing that’s ever happened to me, and I can’t wait to see where this goes. And please tell me you’ll come to Brazil with me. Tell me that we can go on an adventure together.”

“Are you sure?” I said. “I mean, I’d love to, but I don’t want you to tire of me so quickly. I don’t want us to go on vacation and you end up hating me.”
