“But that’s not what you said. You…”

“I what?” he said. “I said you need to be at work early, and you will be. John is bringing you to the office, where I’ll join you, add some files I had to get ready, and then we’ll head to JFK. Then we will catch a morning flight to San Francisco International Airport, and we have a meeting later this afternoon. After the meeting, we’ll grab something to eat. Maybe if you’re lucky, I’ll take you to the Golden Gate Bridge.”

“I don’t need you to take me to the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ve literally been there a hundred times. I’ve walked over it, ridden a bike over it. I take people there when they come to visit me. Did you forget I’m from San Francisco?”

“No, I didn’t forget, but maybe I want you to show me the spot and the part you like the best.”

“Really? Why do you care about me showing you the Golden Gate Bridge?”

“Because maybe I want us to have some fun.”

“I’m not sleeping with you at the Golden Gate Bridge. Are you absolutely out of your mind?”

He started laughing then. “That wasn’t what I was talking about. There are other types of fun to be had.”

“Uh-huh, sure. You were talking about playing cards at the Golden Gate Bridge.”

“Do you like to play cards?” he asked, changing the subject.

“I do. I like hearts, and spades, and euchre, and Texas hold ’em.”

“Oh, so you like to gamble.”

“I do,” I admitted. “Not that I have much money to gamble with, and speaking of gambling, when am I going to get that hundred dollars you owe me?”

“Well, let’s double or nothing the bet.”

“What do you mean double or nothing the bet?”

“I’ll guess what sort of panties you’re wearing this morning. If I’m wrong, I’ll give you two hundred dollars.”

“What? No.”

“I bet you’ve got on cotton this morning,” he said, laughing.

I pressed my lips together. “I’m not doing that with you again, Travis.”

“Didn’t you enjoy it the first time?”

“It doesn’t matter if I enjoyed it the first time. Remember when we’re in the office, we’re in the office, and it’s about business. You can’t be touching me or asking me about my panties.”

“You’re not in the office right now.”

“But you are, so technically, this is still a work-related business call.”

He laughed then. “I see the limo. I’ll see you in a couple of seconds. Think about it. A thousand dollars for…”

“A thousand dollars for what?”

Then the phone went dead. Within seconds, the limo had stopped, and I saw John getting out of the car. The back door was opening, and I looked up and saw Travis standing there, his blue eyes sparkling as he slid into the back seat.

“Good morning, Molly.”

“Good morning, Mr. Covington.” I smiled at him and looked away.

“You can call me Travis.”

“We’re outside the office, though.”
