“That’s cool.” I grinned and looked over at Poppy. “So are you going to come?”

“Well, how long will we be in town?” she asked him. “I have some points on my credit card that I could use for a hotel, but…”

“Nonsense,” he said. “I’ll put you up where we’re staying.”

“Really?” She looked absolutely beyond herself. “Are you sure? I mean…”

“Of course. You’re Molly’s best friend, and she hasn’t gotten to see you in a while, and a happy assistant makes for a happy boss. So if you’re interested, I can get you a room. Just be ready to go the day after tomorrow, and we’ll fly down to LA. And actually there’s a party on Saturday night if you’re interested in coming.”

“Um, what party?” I stared at him suspiciously. “You didn’t tell me anything about a party.”

“Well, I didn’t tell you because I wasn’t sure if you’d want to come.”

“But you think Poppy will want to go?”

“Oh, I know Poppy will want to go,” he said, laughing. “It’s with some A-list stars, and who knows, maybe Adam Levine will be there.”

Poppy started laughing. “You’re horrible, Travis Covington. I’ve just met you, and you’re teasing me mercilessly.”

He smiled. “So you’re interested?”

“Oh, I’m so there. One hundred percent. Do I have to wear a fancy dress on Saturday?”

“It’s not a gala or anything, but people will dress nicely. You can wear what you want, though.”

He looked over at me. “Same for you, Molly.”

“Well, thanks for letting me know. Not that it mattered anyway because I don’t have a suitcase, and I don’t have clothes and…”

“We’ll go shopping tomorrow.”

“How are we going to go shopping tomorrow when we have a meeting?”

“Our meeting is not until the afternoon.”

I stared at him for a couple of seconds. “But you postponed the meetings today, and I thought they started first thing in the morning.”

“I am the CEO and the boss. I can change things just like that,” he said, snapping his fingers.

“Yeah, but…”

“But nothing. Tomorrow morning, we’ll go shopping for some clothes. Then we’ll have our meetings. Then we’ll go to dinner. Then the next morning, we’ll pick Poppy up on our way to the airport.”

“Oh, you don’t have to pick me up. I can find my way there.”

“Nonsense,” he said, shaking his head. “Of course we’ll pick you up in style.”

“Ooh,” she said excitedly. “What does that mean? Are you going to pick me up in a helicopter?”

“No,” he said, chuckling. “I don’t…”

“Travis Covington. Is that you?” A high-pitch voice sounded from a couple of feet away, and we all turned to look.

A tall, statuesque blonde who looked slightly familiar to me headed our way with bright red lips and a sultry smile on her face. Her legs were long and slinky, and she walked over to Travis.

“Travis, darling, I thought that was you.”

They kissed on both cheeks, and I watched as Travis smiled at her, a flirtatious look on his face. I looked over at Poppy, whose eyes were wide.
