“How many remain with him?” Cole asks.

“I don’t know, that is where the biggest problem is.” My shoulders slump slightly, we can’t just charge in there blind without knowing how many he has with him it’s a death warrant for all of us. I meet my brothers gaze and ask the one questions that has been burning in my mind.

“If we take Jacob out then the council will know we are coming for them.” His face gives nothing away as to what he is thinking.

“Ask me what you really want to ask.” I take a deep breath and square my shoulders as I hold his gaze.

“I don’t want just Jacob; I want the council to pay as well. How do we get Shelley and the others back without them knowing we are coming?”

“I’m not sure, we don’t have the numbers to be able to launch an attack simultaneously. We need to scout out where Jacob is and get a read on his numbers and try to find the whereabouts of the council’s location. I am not going to make any promises Jess, I don’t know if we can pull something like this off, if we can’t, we will need to go with the easier of the two which is Jacob.” Sheba smashes against my ribs and a gasp spills from my lips, I feel everyone’s gaze on me, but I don’t acknowledge them. I’m fighting to stay in control here and trying to push Sheba back down inside me or I risk her taking over and going after my brother.

I want his blood to coat my tongue!

Sheba...stop...we––

We go after him and then the council!

Why?

He tried to break us and caged us like a rabid animal. I will not allow him to continue to breath, he needs to be put down!

I wish I could say Sheba is wrong but she isn’t, being taken by Jacob has changed me in ways I can’t even begin to describe. Just hearing his name spikes my fears that I thought I had gotten over. Jacob nearly succeeded in breaking me, if it wasn’t for… I cut myself off and ask.

“Do any of you know where Kayla is?” I see Creed stiffen out of the corner of my eye but ignore him as I run my gaze over each of them.

“Why?” I face Creed and speak.

“Because she is the one who saved my life, I thinkyouand I both owe it to her to at least care enough to ask where she is.” Creed pales and nods his head stiffly, Kayla and I may have started out on the wrong foot, but I’m the type of person who believes that everyone deserves a second chance. I know she and Creed share a past but that is exactly what it is, the past.

“I haven’t seen her, we scoured Jacob’s land to try and flush out any wolves that remained, but she wasn’t among them.” I nod my thanks to Z. The day after we arrived here Ro and a dozen others went to Jacob’s land and searched the houses and outskirts and found over twenty wolves hiding. They were malnourished and frightened, it angered me to see them so skinny and gaunt.

“Look, now seems like a good time as any to tell you all I have set up a meeting with thirteen alphas tonight.” Everyone snaps their gazes to Cole; he sits there and shrugs his shoulders like he didn’t just drop a bomb on everyone. “What?”

“The fuck do you meanwhat?”

“Calm down Credence––“

“Don’t tell me to calm down, you are not the alpha of this pack and had no goddamn right to go behind my back and call this meeting!” Cole slams his fist down on the table growling at his brother, Creed begins to vibrate and growl. I reach across and quickly place my hand on his shoulder to garner his attention, he shakes me off. Callie gives me a shove and I turn to her.

“Stop him, please.” The worry in her voice snaps me into motion just as Creed is about to stand, I quickly push in front of him and drop into his lap. The shock of me doing something so bold like this in front of everyone has him snapping out of his anger and just staring at me.

“Jessica!”

“Cairo, now is not the time, you can thank me later for stopping the fight between these two goons.” My brother groans but remains silent, I focus on Creed and cup his face between my hands. I need to tell him the truth and I’m honestly not sure how he is going to take it after that display.

“Don’t blame Cole––“

“Why not?” I can his eyes flicker between hazel and blue, Corbin is close to the surface, I let Sheba come forward but remain in control, so she is able to calm Creed’s beast.

“Because I asked Cole to call the alphas.” Creed reels back taken off guard, by what I just said. I ignore the other chatter around us and focus on my mate, his eyes search mine but I’m not sure what he is looking for.

“Why princess?” I know the hurt that laces his tone is because I hid this from him, but I knew if I didn’t, he would never have consented to it. Creed has tried to find a way around me meeting with the alphas because he is scared, they will challenge me or try to take me from him. But that will never happen because I have a plan and I just hope he trusts me enough to go along with it.

“Because, if we plan to go against Jacob and the council, we need their numbers. I know you love me and want to protect me, but I will not put the others in harm’s way. You and I both know we don’t have the numbers to take the council, given the situation with Jacob now and him being so close isn’t it better that we have more wolves on our side?”

“And what if they don’t want to help and just want to challenge you for the pack?” I hear growls sound out behind me.

“I’ll fucking kill them for even thinking it!”
