What is it?

We’re under attack!

I jump to my feet and the conversation stops as I turn and face everyone. “Sheba said we’re under attack––“Before I can finish speaking the front door bursts open, Vince and Z barrel inside with stricken looks on their faces. Within seconds everyone is on their feet, Cairo scoops Harlem up and passes him to me as he brushes past to speak to the two guys.

“What is it?”

“Jacob and his pack, we need to move now, I have Tomlin and Andy’s beta’s moving the children and elders to the bunker.” Vince barely finishes speaking before chaos ensues and everyone is barking out orders. I block them out and turn to Meg, her eyes are filled with tears of worry, but I can’t let that affect me know.

“I need you to take Harlem to the bunker and stay with him until Creed or I return.” I don’t give her a chance to respond, I pass my son to her and cradle his beautiful face between my hands, I stroke his cheeks with my thumbs and fight back the tears that want to spill. As a mother it kills me to part with him when there is a chance that this may be the last time I see my son, but the other alpha part of me knows this is the only way to keep him safe and give him a future.

“I love you Monster; mommy will be back soon.”

“No, stay mommy!” The fear in his voice threatens to break me.

“You go with grandma and then mommy and daddy will come get you later. Always remember you are the son of two alphas who love you more than anything in this world, okay?” Hearing Creed’s words causes a pang in my chest, I shut that feeling down and lean forward and place a kiss to my son’s forehead. “Mom, go with Zeke I promise I’ll keep the twins safe.”

“Just promise me the three of you will all return?” Creed sucks in a large breath before answering.

“I promise.” Even I can tell he was lying just to appease his mother. Meg nods and follows Zeke out of the cabin.

“You should go with them.” Vince says to Davina, she glares at Vince and if looks could kill he would be burnt alive.

“I will not hide, now let’s end this!” Everyone rushes out of the cabin, but Creed pulls me back, Cairo stops and turns and looks to both of us and speaks.

“Keep her safe no matter what, if shit goes sideways you take her and Harlem and run. Do you understand?”

“Ro no––“I’m cut off by Creed.

“Yes, I swear I’ll protect them.” Ro nods and turns to me with a smile on his face that doesn’t reach his eyes.

“You were always meant for greater things smalls, I love you.” A sob tears out of me when he disappears through the door. Creed pulls me into his hold as I weep against his chest.

“Princess, you can sit this out and go with our son.” I pull back and quickly swipe away the remnants of my tears before I answer.

“No, we do this together for our son.” He nods and then grips my hand in his then leads us out of the cabin and into the chaos.

Chapter

Fifty One

Credence

The smell of smoke is the first thing to assault my senses when we exit the cabin, then comes the sounds of screams and growls. I lead Jess out of the woods heading toward my mom’s house but stop when I see that her house is engulfed in flames. I stand here and watch as my childhood home goes up in flames, I hear Jess gasp beside me and that is enough to snap me out of my stupor. I turn to her and see anger and fear simmering in her eyes, I want nothing more than to ease her fears but right now I can’t. I cup her face between my hands and lean down and capture her lips in a kiss that I hope conveys how much I love her without words. Before I can overthink everything, I pull back and meet her gaze as I say.

“I love you, now shift!” Her eyes immediately change to the color of her wolf as she recognizes the alpha command in my voice. I step back and begin to strip; Jess does the same and within minutes we are both shifted and standing on all fours. Corbin takes over and bounds around the side of the burning house with Jess hot on our heels, it’s sensory overload once we get to the front, wolves in both their human and fur form fight, vampires are in the midst battling alongside us. I pause to scan the area and take in the sheer number of people; Jacob has more numbers than we could have planned for its like he has the councils’ numbers and every pack at his call. I hear a yelp to my left and spin around and find that it’s my brother pinned beneath a huge wolf with another one about to go for the kill shot.

Corbin!I scream as my wolf takes off toward my brother, before one of the wolves can latch onto his throat, I throw myself at the wolf pinning Cole to the ground, we roll a couple times before skidding to a stop. We jump to our feet and that’s when I notice it isn’t one of Jacob’s wolves it’s Sean, one of the alpha’s who was supposed to be helping us. Anger courses through my veins as Corbin releases a growl and launches at Sean, just before I manage to pin him on his back, he sinks his teeth into my shoulder and I howl out in pain. Corbin shakes him off and latches onto his throat, then tears his flesh, the gurgling sound and flow of blood that rushes from his exposed wound fills Corbin with a sense of…power. I don’t dwell on the fact that I just killed an alpha and inherited his pack instead I look for my brother and find that he is okay and moving toward me. I turn to the spot I was with Jess and panic when I can’t see her!

Colton, Jess is gone.

She ran into the fight when she saw Sky taking on three wolves.

Shit, where is Callie?

I-I don’t know!I can hear the panic in his voice and try to mask my own worry.

You find California and I’ll get Jess. There is too many of them Cole and some of the alpha’s have switched sides.
