“Dude! I’m good with her being naked by head but not you, and if you get a fucking boner right now, I’ll beat your ass.” I can’t stop the chuckle that comes out, but immediately regret it when the pain in the side of my neck intensifies, I hiss and Creed narrows his eyes.

“Davina, you and Callie help Cole down the ridge. I’ll help Jess down so she can call an end to the fight.” Creed scoops me up and before he can rush us out of here, I stop him with my words.

“Kayla.” His brow furrows.

“What?”

“She was by Jacob.” Creed turns us toward Jacob’s lifeless body, but Kayla is nowhere to be seen.

“Princess, it’s only you and Cole up here.” I don’t get a chance to answer, Creed races us down the side of the ridge and a few times I thought he might stumble and fall but he doesn’t, I bite my lip to stop me from crying out in pain when he jostles me, I hold my arm against my chest to try minimize its movements. I know that being a shifter means it will heal quicker but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t hurt like a bitch!

Chapter

Fifty Three

Credence

I don’t stop until we get to the center of pack lands, wolves and vampires still fight around us, I place Jess gently on her feet and turn her toward me. She looks so confused and unsure; I know she is in pain, but she has to do this, or the fight will never stop. I can see that her wounds are affecting her and it kills me to make her do this, but I can’t let more lives be lost.

“You have to shift and call your pack off.”

“Huh?” I reach out and cup her face, I know she never wanted this, and I wanted to protect her from being an alpha, but I can’t change that now.

“Jacob was an alpha Princess, you killed him which means that his pack is now yours. Shift and call them back before more lives are lost, please!” I don’t know if it was the tone of my voice or the look in my eyes, but she nods, steps back and then shifts. I sink my hand into the fur along her back and relish in her warmth. “Close your eyes and feel for your pack, once you can feel that connection you need to pull on it, and then issue an alpha command.” Sheba huffs, I know she knows what to do but I say the words for Jess’s benefit not hers. As minutes tick by I begin to worry, if she doesn’t hurry, we will have no choice but to join the fight soon. My pack has managed to hold the other wolves back while Jess concentrates, but they won’t be able to hold them back for long. Just as I’m about to shift and help Asher and Tommy hold back six wolves Sheba throws her head back and lets out a loud, long howl. A few seconds tick by as I scan the area and see that wolves, vamps and wolves in their skin stop fighting as they face Jess. When all the fighting stops Jess shifts back and wobbles slightly, I wrap my arm around her waist to steady her.

“Jacob is dead!” A mixture of gasps and then cheers ring out around us. “No wolf is to attack another, there will be no more fighting here tonight. Enough blood and lives have been lost because of the greed of one man.” I stare down at my mate in awe, the way she handled herself tonight and just spoke to these shifters is a moment I will never forget. “We are all the same, we may be from different packs but that doesn’t mean that fighting is the answer to everything.”

It’s nearly noon by the time we manage to clear most of the debris and deal with the fallen shifters, we can’t salvage my mom’s house. She didn’t give a shit about the house, all she cared about was that Cole, Callie and I were all safe. Cole’s wound has pretty much healed, Davina’s doctor took a look at Jess’s wounds and cleaned them, Al had to apply butterfly stiches to the wound on her neck. He said they will heal fine, as long as she didn’t shift for a couple days, she agreed and was happy to have the pain meds he gave her. Exhaustion is creeping in, and I know everyone must be feeling it as well, but I refuse to let them rest until we care for those that lost their lives helping us, Jess was devastated to find that her friend Carmi had lost her life, Callie, Asher, Tommy, Ashely and Jess all chose to dig and bury their friend together. I spy Davina standing near one of the cabins talking to Vince, I decide that I have to thank her for her help, without her and her vamps we would have been fucked. They stop talking when they see me, I reach up and rub the back of my neck as I speak.

“Thank you, without your support we would have been fucked plain and simple.” Vince grunts and then excuses himself to help the other vamps deal with their dead. The tension between Davina and I isn’t as bad as it normally is, I have a newfound respect for the woman who gave birth to me, that is something I never thought I would say. I can see in her eyes the toll this battle has taken on her and a part of me does feel bad but another part, the part of me that is still bitter toward her doesn’t give a shit.

“I appreciate it, but you don’t need to thank me, well not after what I have to tell you.” The ominous tone of her voice sets me on edge, the tiredness I felt moments ago is gone.

“What is it?” She lets out a whoosh of air and darts her gaze around to make sure no one is listening to us.

“Vince went to recover Jacob’s body––.”

“Why?”

“Because Cairo wants to return the favor an send his head to Russia.”Jesus!“Well, when he was there, he caught a familiar scent.”

“Whose scent?” Her shoulders stiffen as she tears her gaze from mine.

“Alexander’s.”

“The guy that gave Jess’s dad the vampire blood that turned you?”

“Yes.” She grits out through clenched teeth.

“Why?”

“I have no idea; Vince and I will look into it, but him being back isn’t a good thing. We will leave in a couple of days and track Belle down, if he’s come back, it’s because he’s after her.” I have no idea who this Belle is but from what I can gather from Vince and Davina she is someone very important to their race.

“After what you all did for us, we will help you locate her and protect her.” Davina smiles sadly.

“No, if Alex is here and coming for her then he will lay waste to anyone who tries to stop him.” She reaches out and places her hand on my arm. “Your fight is over, go be with your mate and son and enjoy your freedom. You have both earnt it, Cairo has offered to help us, and I accepted.”

“Why the hell would Ro offer?” The sound of footsteps approaching draws my attention to see, Ro, Z, Sky and Callie coming to us.
