“Oh baby, you do know I have visions right?” I nod my head like an idiot. “I know you have spoken to him more than once, so why don’t you start filling the rest of us in on what youreallyknow about Alexander Maximoff.”

“The fuck is she talking about Ro?” I swing my gaze to Creed and open my mouth, but no words come out. Does she know everything?

Bex?

No, if she did, she would have said something.

Are you sure?

No.

Thanks for nothing.

I’m a wolf not a fucking physic.

I deduce that if she really knew who Alexander is to her, she wouldn’t be this calm and cocky, so I decide to play the game.

“Alexander and I met in the woods after the challenge with Cassius, he talked, I listened and agreed to…some of his terms.” I can feel Belle’s glare in the side of my head, I turn and smile at her which just earns me a blank look. “Fine, I agreed to trade Belle, but shit changed when I marked her. I ignore the growls and continue. “He called me and told me Sky is in Montana, he also knows Davina is after him.” Everyone is shouting questions at me, but I focus on Callie who still hasn’t spoken a word to me since she lost her shit. Callie’s eyes are sunken in, she looks pale and has lost weight. She knows now Sky isn’t her true mate, but I guess her love for Sky runs a lot deeper than I originally thought. “Callie?” Silence over comes the others, I wait for her to meet my gaze, but she doesn’t. It hurts that she blames me, but I also don’t hold it against her, I know this is all my fault and Sky has just been caught in––.

“What if she isn’t just a pawn?” I swing my gaze to Blake.

“What do you mean?” He gives me a dry stare but answers me none the less.

“Think about it, they could have taken Jess––.” Creed growls as Blake continues. “But they didn’t, they took Sky because they want something from her.”

“Like what?” Cole asks.

“I don’t know, she is the first witch I have ever met, so I would imagine it has something to do with the magic inside her.” I wrack my brain trying to think of what purpose they would have to take her for that purpose. Sky told Belle she cancurevampires, whatever the hell that means, but what use is she to the council? This is such a cluster fuck of lies, I hate that I can’t figure out what any of this means.

“What if they just need her for her power?” All eyes are on Creed. “If they have Sky by their side, then that means they’re able to work their voodoo and all wolves will have to submit to them again. Phillip is a power-hungry son of a bitch; we know he has another witch working for him, but what if she isn’t as strong as Sky?”

“Sky would never betray us like that.” I’m resolute in my answer.

“What if she didn’t have a choice? Belle just said that Sky knows whatever is about to happen, is her destiny, I know you don’t want to hear this, but what if Sky isn’t in control anymore.” I grind my teeth so hard my gums begin to ache.

“Sky once told me that there is this…other being that lives inside of her, and every day it tries to claw its way out. At the beginning I would brush it off and tell her it’s just her wolf trying to break free after all these years, but then she told me the truth.” Callie talks like a robot, there is no emotion in her tone. “She said that she was day, and the thing inside her is night, she wanted to take her own life, to stop it from ever breaking free, but that thing wouldn’t let her. She knew that one day she wouldn’t be able to fight and this being would want more power, so if what Creed is saying is true, then the council retrieving this thing to take overmySky will mean the end for all of us.”

After Callie dropped that bombshell, no one said a word, thankfully the plane landed half an hour later, so we didn’t have to sit in tension filled silence for any longer. As we disembark from the aircraft on a private tarmac, thanks to Creed and all his newassociateswe were able to get a private jet. Waiting for us are two black escalades, as we approach the vehicles I pause; Creed stops next me and it’s in this moment that it finally dawns on me.

“I have no idea where to go from here.” He claps his hand on my shoulder and I peer over at him, he smiles smugly and shrugs his shoulders.

“Jess thought as much, she booked us an air BNB just out of the main town. We can head there, get some sleep and then hash out a plan in the morning.” I nod and follow after him, Callie, Cole, Creed and Zeke occupy the first Escalade, and the rest of us get into the second. Cass rides shotgun next to me while Belle and the other two Wilders hop in the back. The drive passes by in a blur, conversation carries on around me, but I can’t focus on anything they are saying. Now that we are here, and I know we are close, nerves wrack my body and doubt begins to creep in. We finally turn down a long drive that leads us to a two-story house that reminds me of Clark Kent’s homestead, I don’t bother to take in any details, we won’t be here long enough for me to care. I pull the car to a stop behind Creed, everyone piles out and grabs our bags as Creed retrieves the key from a lockbox around the side of the house.

By the time I shower and crawl into bed beside Belle, it’s nearly dawn, we’ll only get a few hours of sleep before it’s time to work out a plan and find Sky. This place is to big for us all to shift and try to catch her scent, it’ll be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Belle mumbles something incoherent so I wrap my arms around her an drag her back against me, I’ll admit spooning her as I drift off is becoming an addiction. How she can fall asleep so fast after passing out for hours baffles me, I lay here and listen to her quiet breaths and once again, guilt eats at me.

“I swear once this is all over, I’ll tell you everything and help you chase the answers you seek beauty.” I whisper as I place a soft kiss to the back of her head, I freeze when she speaks.

“I know you will, I also know you’re hiding things from me, but I know you must have a good reason for it.” I have no idea what I’m supposed to say to that, I keep underestimating her and it’s going to bite me in the ass hard, one day soon. Belle turns over so we are facing each other, she cups my cheek, and I see no anger in her eyes which causes the tension to flee my body. “We find Sky and take down these vile disgusting council members.”

“Agreed.” I growl.

“Then I want answers.”

“I know.”

“I want answers from you first Ro. I know there is something big you are keeping from me.”

“I promise, I’ll tell you everything once we find Sky and go back to my pack lands.” She flinches and worry claws its way inside me. “What’s wrong?”
