“I promise you,” I leaned over the bed, resting my hand on her leg, “I will not let him hurt you again.”

She turned back over, tucking her hands under her cheek. “I’m not worried about me, Valentino.”

“You have to trust that I can handle him.” I folded a strand of her hair behind her ear.

“Okay.” She bobbed her head.

I glanced at the clock. “I need to get ready for work now. Shower with me.”

Fake News

The girls were locked away in a room upstairs, handling bridal stuff with Laura. Since Isabelle and I both got very little sleep, I worked from home today. William, Joseph, Noah, and I were trying to figure out how to handle the situation with Felipe; and all of us make it out alive this time. I would have called a few more friends, involving them in this, but dealing with Felipe was something I wanted to handle myself. There was no point in dragging other people into it. That included thefamilyI controlled, and any ally I had in New York, Chicago, and back home in Italy. I was confident that the four of us could end this quietly.

Joseph leaned against the wall while waiting for my orders. William stood in the open doorway of the back patio, smoking. My eyes flashed to Noah, whose face was buried in his phone as he paced the room, paying no attention to any of us. After our talk the previous night, I thought I would let my guard down a bit with him, understanding he had made himself vulnerable to me. Right now, he was angering me all over again.

“Care to join us or are you going to keep pissing around on your phone?”

His gaze lifted from the screen as he flipped the display toward me. “Do you want to see this?”

I reached out. He placed the phone in my hand. I studied it for a few moments, scrolling through the info and maps he presented me. When I glanced up, he was smug, hands resting on his hips.

“Maybe you’ll trust me now.”

“What the fuck is this, Noah?” At first, I was unable to fully understand what I was looking at, but the pieces of the puzzle came together as the question left my mouth.

Joseph breezed over, looking on. “What is it?”

Noah flickered his eyes, throwing his arm out. Arching a brow, I handed him his phone back. He scrolled for a second before tapping the screen a few times then handing it back to me.

I scanned the screen and my eyes widened as I settled my gaze on the intended focus. “Noah,” I sighed, trying to remain calm, “when and where the fuck did you get this information?”

“Just moments ago actually, boss.”

“What is it?” William inquired, as he tossed his cigarette into the ashtray outside and closed the door. Stepping over to my desk, he snatched the phone from my hand, studying the screen. “How did you get this footage?” He shoved the phone back at Noah, then folded his arms, glaring.

“You were able to do that in a short amount of time?” Joseph cocked his head.

Noah shrugged. “You guys know my old job required some skills you guys don’t know about yet. I haven’t had a chance to utilize them all.”

“Care to fucking share?” I was livid he had been holding back.

“I can’t tell you everything.” He shook his head. “Sorry. The government would have me killed.”

I chuckled. “Well, you live in my house, so I suggest you spill the information, orI’llkill you.”

KNOCK. KNOCK.

“Come in!” I huffed, darting my gaze between the door and Noah.

All eyes veered to the sound as Isabelle and Laura entered the room. Isabelle could tell that we were in the middle of something serious. She shifted her weight awkwardly, as if it were the first time she had met me all over again.

“We went out and got food, so when you guys are ready, it’s in the kitchen.”

I scowled, folding my arms. “You went out without protection?”

“Oh my God!” Astonished, she smacked her palm over her mouth. “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t thinking. We didn’t sneak away or anything. We just took her car.” She nodded at my sister.

“Isabelle, fuck.” Closing my eyes, I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to calm myself. I lifted my gaze to the girls. “With Felipe close, you cannot do that, neither of you.”
