“There’s no key for that one.” He lifted his chin toward the second boat. “That’s the one they took over here.”

“So, I guess that means you have to come back and get us.”

William snorted. “Not unless you want to row to the airport.”

Annoyed I shot him daggers. He rolled his eyes in return. Noah breezed by me, hopping off the pier into the boat once again. William shrugged by, following him as he leapt into the front.

“We’ll be back as soon as possible.” Noah stuck the key in the ignition. “One of us will call you when we’re on the way.”

“Be careful.” As I turned, sauntering toward the house, I heard them speeding away.

The path winded up to the modest, island-style home. The lights framing the walkway were off, as were the interior lights of the home. Joseph thought to keep them from being detected at all. With a relieved sigh, I got ready to slide my hands in my pockets but did not want to make the blood worse. It was dark and I was uncertain how much I had gotten on myself.

The long wrap around porch offered a view of the ocean. Once again, I felt mildly disappointed we would never return. The nightmare my romantic gesture had become was fucking with my head. As I approached the front door, ready to walk in, I realized I might should call Joseph to let him know it was me.

Reaching in my pocket, I slid my phone out, rolling my eyes at the fact I had just been hesitant about getting my jeans dirtier. Scrolling to Joseph’s name, I sent the call through.

Everything okay?

I’m outside. Let—

The door opened and his eyes widened. He dropped his arm to his side. “Holy shit.” He glanced behind me before his gaze settled back on mine. “Oh no, I thought they were with you. Noah ca—”

I lifted my hand, cutting him off. “They went back to get our things.”

“Oh my God!” Isabelle’s frantic voice cried out as I stepped through the door. Hopping off the sofa, she sprinted toward me. “Are you—”

Holding my arms out, I pulled her against my body. “I’m not anymore hurt than I was when you saw my side.” I peeked over her head at Joseph, pressing my lips into a thin line.

He arched a brow, crossing his arms. “Is it done?”

“He was with two others. There was no sign of anyone else on the island.”

Isabelle leaned back, peering up into my eyes. “He’s gone? Likegonegone?!”

Blinking slowly, I leaned forward placing my lips against her forehead. “You don’t need to worry anymore.”

Joseph titled his head, lifting his hand to his chin. He studied my face, reading through my forced smile to Isabelle. I only offered a small nod, assuring him all was okay. Rolling his eyes, he veered away toward the wall flipping on a couple of lights.

Isabelle took a deep breath as she stepped back. “You’re covered in blood.”

I shrugged. “I hadn’t noticed.”

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, just in shock, I think. It’s hard to believe, you know?” There was no lie in my words, though I was still confused.

She smiled, allowing a relived breath to escape her mouth. “I’m just so happy he’s gone now.”

Before I could respond, Tanya and Laura entered the room. The moment their brains processed my appearance, they both instantly slapped their hands over their mouths.

“Where’s Liam?!”

“Where’s Noah?!”

They fired questions at me. Laura began to tear up. Tanya started weeping.

Flashing my palms at them, I shook my head. “They’re fine. They brought me here then went back to get our things. Felipe is dead.”
