“William, we don't have time to wait,” I announced. “She will die!”

That is when I did the one thing you are not supposed to do when unsure of the extent of a person's physical injuries, but I was panicking. I was no medical professional but judging by her blood loss and pulse, I knew that if we did not get her to a hospital soon, she might not make it much longer.

Glancing back at Marco, I noticed he was frozen, looking down at Isabelle. His eyes were widened, full of shock. His mouth was balled tightly as if he were actually mad that she was hurt.

“Marco you have to drive!” I demanded as I lifted her off the floor, cradling her in my arms.

For once I was thankful my brother was next to me. Without saying a word, he nodded, taking my keys from my pocket. William followed us into the elevator and the doors closed. It seemed to descend slower than normal. William stared ahead without saying a word.

“We'll find Tanya, I promise.”

He did not respond but only focused on the numbers counting down as we got closer to the bottom of the building. The doors opened and we hurried out of the elevator as quickly as possible. The doorman saw us and before we could tell him Marco was driving us, he opened the building doors, flagging down a cab.

The three of us got in the back seat, holding her across our laps. I held on to her as tightly as I could without doing more damage. The cab driver sped through the streets of downtown London as fast as he could.

We arrived at the hospital emergency department in record time. Barging into the waiting area, the staff quickly met us, taking her from me. I tried to follow but they assured me they would take care of her. I shook my head, running with them. Hospital security approached me.

“Sir, you have to wait out there,” one of them informed me, holding his hand out toward me with his palm facing me, motioning for me to stop. “Let the doctors do their jobs.”

My brain was unable to process his words at the time, but my body instinctively backed away as a tear rolled down my cheek. A nurse followed me out to the middle of the waiting room speaking, but I did not hear a word she said. I was watching Isabelle be carried into a room at the end of the hallway as the doors slowly closed before my face.

“Excuse me,” the nurse murmured, placing her hand on my arm to get my attention.

I slowly met her eyes with a lost, but angry stare.

“What happened to her?” she questioned. “Were you in an accident?”

My eyes lowered to the floor as I took a shallow, unsteady breath. Another tear rolled off my cheek, landing on the floor. My entire world was beyond those doors, and I could not see her. Nothing mattered to me right now except her. I needed her to be okay.

21 Emergency

I stuttered, “I...I don't know.”

The nurse rested her hand on my shoulder. “Well, in order to help her--.”

“Don't fucking touch me!”

She quickly withdrew her hand. “Sir, I ju--,” she sighed, carefully choosing her words, “any information you give me will help her.”

My brother stepped over, anchoring himself between the nurse and me. He crossed his arms over his chest, doing his best to intimidate her. I was a bit shocked at his sudden need to protect me.

“He said he doesn't know!”

I nudged him to the side, stepping in front of him. “I actually really don’t know.” Inhaling deeply, I continued to explain, “We were all out to dinner and she left early with her friend.” I averted my gaze, trying to swallow my pain before making eye contact with her once again. “When we got back to my apartment, she was unconscious in the living room, covered in glass and blood.”

Just then, I glanced over to the security guard who was now on his phone as he glowered my way. He whispered into the mouthpiece as if he wanted me to know he was talking about me.

Right now, I just wanted to know Isabelle was okay. The nurse assured me they would do whatever they could, and I could see her as soon as it was okay. She excused herself, disappearing behind the double doors. I trudged over to Marco and William, falling back in a chair, and burying my head in the palm of my hands.

William paced the floor before he suddenly squatted in front of me, muttering, “Where the fuck is Tanya?”

I slowly lifted my head, glaring at him. Understanding that was his main concern, I tried to be as calm as possible. I sighed, my eyes burning and swollen. I could barely see or think straight.

“I have no idea Liam,” I sighed. “I wish I had that answer.”

He stood, massaging his temples with his fingertips, “I have to go find her right now.”

Marco took a step closer, whispering, “Call Joseph first. Clearly they're together.”
