I shoved the phone into his body, huffing, “Just go!”

He snorted as he proudly spun, returning to his previous post. Sliding the phone in his pocket, he dropped his hands in front of his body, grasping one of his hands with the other. I placed my other identical phone on the table just as Isabelle returned moments later. I stood, pulling her chair out for her, as the server returned with our coffee. I took a seat, smiling at the waitress before she disappeared once again.

I sat back. “Have you had any luck with jobs?” I inquired then took a sip of my drink.

She shook her head with the rim of the mug to her lips. ”I haven't looked,” she smiled as she took a drink, then placed her cup on the saucer in front of her.

“Oh?” I took another sip of my coffee.

She shifted in her seat. “I've been a little busy lately.”

I lightly coughed, making it appear as if I were clearing my throat.

Just as she was about to finish her thought, her phone vibrated next to her saucer. She peeked down, slowly picking it up while unlocking it simultaneously. Her facial expression switched from pleasant to seemingly disheartened as she glanced at me before tapping on her phone rapidly with her thumbs. After a moment, she exhaled, laying the phone back on the table.

“As I said,” she sighed, “I’ve been a little busy lately.”

“Well are you too busy to see me again?” I grinned wickedly.

Her phone vibrated again. As she turned her attention to her phone once again, I peeked up to see Joseph slightly nodding at me. I pursed my lips, casually stroking my chin as I watched Isabelle reading her screen. Her eyes slowly met mine as she placed her phone in her bag. She then focused her attention on my phone. She stared at it momentarily until I interrupted her thought.

“Everything okay?”

Her head snapped up, her gaze meeting mine. “Yeah,” she muttered as if she were unsure. “Yeah, it is, but I just realized I should get back to my apartment because I have to let the movers in.”

“Oh,” I sighed, “o-okay sure.”

She took another sip of her coffee then picked her bag off the ground.

“No,” I contested, “I got it.”

She grinned, nodding as she stood to her feet, “Thank you.”

I immediately stood as well, crossing my arms. “Would you like to have dinner with me tomorrow night?” I offered, hoping that she would take the bait.

“You want me to go to dinner with you?” she tilted her head as if my question took her by surprise.

“Unless you're too good for me,” I shrugged, teasing.

Placing her hands on her hips, she giggled, “Oh Mister, I think you have it all wrong.”

“Enlighten me then,” I challenged her as I sat down, leaning back as I crossed my arms and winked at her.

“Listen Mr--,” she blurted, then paused for a moment in thought. “What’s your name?” she continued. “Probably Romeo or Casanova or something like that.” She giggled, “Am I close?”

“My name is Valentino,” I murmured before taking a sip of my coffee.

“Of course, it is!” she snorted, looking away.

I gently set my mug back down then propped my elbows on the surface of the table, clasping my hands together, studying her. She took notice of my mannerisms, then folded her arms over her stomach. She began to shake her head.

“You have this fancy suit, a sexy name,” she began, gesturing toward me.

I smiled behind my hands, amused at her visible frustration.

“You probably live in some fancy penthouse apartment and drive a Porsche,” she confidently slid the strap of her bag onto her shoulder then crossed her arms, challenging me with a knowing smirk. “Am I right about any of that?”

I sat back, resting my elbows on the arms of the chair, watching her. My silence and amusement only fueling her.
