“Isabelle,” he snickered.

I snapped my mouth closed, peering up at him.

“Are you going to faint again? Do I need to call an ambulance for you this time?”

I shoved the keys into my handbag, rolling my eyes at him while smiling. He tapped the top of the limo and it started to drive away. He turned back to me winking, before he disappeared into the car. I happily danced in place before realizing Joseph was standing behind me when he cleared his throat.

“Joseph,” I gasped, spinning to face him. “How long have you been watching me act stupid?”

“The entire time, Miss,” he claimed before tucking both of his lips between his teeth attempting to mask his amusement.

Shaking my head, I sped past him highly embarrassed, but he quickly followed, keeping my pace. He did not dare laugh as we marched through the building doors into the lobby, waiting for the elevator. Not a word was spoken while I shifted my weight. I watched the numbers change. Joseph slid his phone out of his pocket, intently staring down at the screen. He glanced up, checking the lobby doors every few seconds.

We stepped into the elevator and he pulled out his card, swiping it into the access panel. As we ascended, he suddenly got a profoundly serious look on his face. I titled my head, wondering what was on his mind, but then I heard a muffled voice coming from his ear.

Yes, I am, he replied.

Moments later he responded once again,Okay.

Right now?he groaned, but this time into his watch.

I was puzzled but I did not say anything. Instead, I watched the floor. Tuning out his words, I continued thinking about theSircomment that Valentino made earlier. It felt odd to me that he would say that.

We are in the elevator, but we will prepare to leave immediately,Joseph replied to the person on the other end of his earpiece once again.

“Miss Ayala,” he cleared his throat. “We have to take you to the estate tonight,” he calmly muttered.

“What?!” I choked. “It's not the weekend!”

Maybe word somehow got back to Sir about my night and he was livid. I should have been worried about breaking the contract he and I had together. However, I was more concerned about the fact I might have disappointed him in some way. I sighed, feeling like I betrayed him. Joseph did not speak. He stared ahead at the doors, ignoring my statement.

“Is everything okay?” I continued to question him, “What happened?”

The elevator slowed down, coming to a stop. I stepped out into my apartment, but Joseph planted himself in front of me. He began to point his gun in various places around the penthouse, scanning our surroundings. My eyes widened, noting this new approach to entry.

Placing his watch to his lips this time, he announced, “All clear.”

“Joseph what's going on?” I hissed.

Without saying a word, he grabbed my hand, practically dragging me upstairs to my bedroom.

“What are you doing to me?” I pleaded, anxiety building within me.

As we entered my bedroom, he dropped his gun to his side, glaring at me with his hand on my arm. I gulped, now terrified that something terrible was about to happen to me. Joseph’s grip tightened on my arm, causing my eyes to water. He did not hurt me, but his normal friendly mood had become alarming. He focused his eyes carefully on mine, commanding my undivided attention.

“You have exactly ninety seconds to pack whatever you need,” he blustered as he began to look at his watch.

I froze, my eyes darting around the room.

“Eighty,” he blurted, never looking up from his wrist.

“Okay okay,” I panicked, sprinting into my closet. “Oh my God.”

“Seventy,” he called out aggressively from my room, his voice carrying through the large suite.

I continued to throw anything and everything into my bag, that I thought I might need. I was only paying minimal attention since I was flustered, confused, and alarmed. Jogging into my bathroom, I repeated the action, shoving all my toiletries and make-up into a smaller bag.

“Forty!” he yelled.
