I dashed back into my closet mentally counting everything that I had, trying to make sure that I did not miss anything that I may need in any situation. Circling the room, I grabbed a few more things, panting. Zipping up my bags, I closed my eyes, taking the deepest breath that I could muster.

“We have to go right now!” he loudly warned, emphasizing the word,go.

Scooping my bags off the floor, I emerged from the closet, announcing, “Okay, ready.”

He placed his watch up to his mouth. “Roof access,” he conversed, “We are on our way up."

Leading me to the end of my upstairs hallway, he held his watch up to the dead-end wall, or so that is what it appeared to be. I became astonished as the wall made a small popping sound, sliding out and to the side. A long corridor with silver, metal walls was revealed while blue tinted lights lit up, illuminating the path. At the end of the hallway was a tall, spiral staircase leading to a door.

“Secure access doors,” Joseph ordered.

The door behind us slammed closed, causing me to jump.

He promptly reached out, taking my bags from my hands then planted himself in front of me. We climbed the staircase as quickly as we could. He opened the door at the top of the stairs, revealing a helicopter in the middle of a landing pad.

Several men stood waiting nearby with guns drawn, pacing the roof. My eyes nervously darted around, wondering what was happening. If I ran, I would be killed. Joseph seemed so nice. Why was he doing this? Was I being kidnapped?!

The door on the side of the helicopter opened and he helped me climb in.Oh god, Iwasbeing kidnapped! Why would Joseph do this to me? I felt lightheaded as the air around me became thick. Tunnel vision set it. Uh oh, I tried to swallow but my throat felt as if I had eaten an entire sleeve of crackers without water. I was going to pass out again.

Joseph secured me into the seat then closed the door, getting situated across from me. The other armed men jumped into the helicopter as well and that is when I noticed they were my security from the apartment, not random people. Joseph gave a signal to the pilot then we took off, high above the city. My eyes began to tear up, uncertain of my future.

Just as we got away from the building, the access door to the roof opened. Four armed men emerged from where Joseph and I had just been. They were holding, what appeared to be, pistols and assault rifles. I was not being kidnapped. I was being saved.

Still peering out the window with wide eyes, I gasped, “Who are those guys?” I turned to him, repeating frantically, “Joseph, who are those guys back there?”

“You do not need to worry about them,” he leaned forward, patting me on the knee, smiling. “We will arrive to our destination in fifty-two minutes”

I nodded, sighing, still attempting to catch my breath.

“Relax please,” he encouraged.

Concerned, I could not quite relax yet. I was still shaken up about the event that just occurred on the roof. Still, I had no idea what had actually just happened or why anyone would be after one of them, or me. Perhaps it was a case of mistaken identity? I had no clue.

“Will you please tell me where we are going?” I pleaded.

“The estate of course,” he confessed as he glanced toward the other guys, rolling his eyes. “You will be very safe there.”

I sighed, relaxing a bit.

“By the way, we're not kidnapping you,” he smirked.

“Wha--”

“Sometimes you think,” he interrupted then paused, “verbally.”

I huffed, slumping in my seat, but was restricted by my seatbelt. Joseph chuckled deliberately. The others all exchanged a knowing glance as I pulled out my phone.I started to use my time to think about the massive puzzle that was locked inside my brain.

I had my ear buds with me, so I placed them into my ears, listening to my favorite playlist on full volume. Staring out the window, I watched as the city got further away. Closing my eyes, I laid my head back, trying to relax as much as possible while listening to one of my favorite songs.

Joseph tapped me on my knee again, causing me to pull my earbuds out in a hurry. I jerked my body, stiffing up in my seat, realizing that I had dozed off. I exhaled, peering outside the window. Not more than a couple of hours ago, I was on the greatest date of my life and now I was back to the one place that I actually learned to enjoy being, other than the obvious.

“We're here,” Joseph muttered.

Instantly, I became nervous, watching the monstrous, elegant mansion grow larger as we flew over the garden. Just as I was thinking how I hoped I did not get in trouble, Joseph handed me a black, lace veil.

“Of course,” I sighed, shaking my head.

Pursing his lips, he shrugged, “I know, but rules are rules.”
