Before I browsed through them, I furrowed my brow, “What do you meantest?”

Gesturing toward the papers, he scowled, “This will explain everything.”

Ithumbed through the papers as I stood before him. He watched me intently as I scanned each one carefully. Without raising my head, I glided over to the bed, taking a seat while still reading over each sentence. My mouth began to open a little wider in shock as I read the details of each one. My eyes fell on the portion of the paperwork with details of my future engagement with Xavier.

I shook my head in a panic, shrieking, “I am not marrying anyone!”

He strode over, sitting next to me and pulled my body in to his embrace. “I am not going to let that happen,” he soothed, “don't worry.”

I felt Isabelle tense up before she jumped off the bed, twisting her body around to face me. She tossed the papers on the mattress. Pacing back and forth several times at a rapid speed, she played with her lips in thought. She suddenly froze, spinning to me.

“You have to kill him now!” she demanded harshly.

I sharply inhaled, running my fingers through my hair. “You realize what you're saying.” I began to gather the papers up, organizing and holding them in my lap.

She nodded as she started to roam around the room, “I do. You have to kill him!” She commanded once more. “I don't want him to hurt me,” she paused, still pacing, “or any of you for that matter.”

“I know,” I sighed, “I don’t want anyone to get hurt, especially you.”

She stopped walking, lowering her gaze. I saw a tear form then run down her nose, dripping onto the wooden floor. I marched to her, yanking her body against mine.

She giggled through her tears, “Believe it or not, I’m not a cry baby but since you came into my life, I feel it's all I do.”

My body became tense instantly. Taking a step away from her, I dropped my arms to my side. I felt completely defeated. The worst part about all this was, she was right. I should have stayed silent, watched her then handled all this on my own. She sheepishly watched me, sensing the hurt that her statement caused me.

“Listen Valenti--.”

“Isabelle,” I cut her off in a low growl, “feel free to roam the apartment.”

“What do you mean?”

“I am going out for a while,” I snapped harshly as I marched toward the door. I turned to her once more. “Security will remain here with you and keep an eye on you.”

She took a step toward me, pausing, calling after me, “Where are you going?”

Without replying, I closed the door as I stepped into the hall. Joseph had been waiting for me, leaning against the wall, on his phone. I shoved the papers in his arms as I passed him, without speaking.

“Boss!” he called after me.

I did not acknowledge him as I marched at a quick pace for the elevator. I pressed the button, closing the doors before any of my security could get to me.

I was frozen in the moment, standing in the middle of the room like a statue scared to move a muscle. Valentino had just stormed out. I did not know whether to run after him to find him or stay put. There were times he decided to go after me, so I concluded that it was time that I return the favor.

I did not want him hurting over something that came out of my mouth the wrong way. Truly, I enjoyed his company even if things were very intense right now. He was the one thing keeping me somewhat sane.

I left the bedroom, jogging to the living room, but there was no sign of him anywhere. Joseph was speaking in Italian to someone on the phone but hung up the minute I approached him. He crossed his arms, glaring at me but it did not seem as if he were upset with me, only the situation.

“Where’s Valentino?” I tried to ask as nicely as possible.

Joseph sighed, “He went out for a while.”

I nodded but knew he was not telling me everything. I searched the room, noticing everyone else was gone as well. I returned my gaze to Joseph, who was busy on his phone texting as quickly as his thumbs would allow.

“They're out with him,” I confirmed, “and you had orders to stay with me?”

Joseph placed his phone in his jacket pocket then absorbed my facial expression before he calmly spoke. “My job is to strictly watch after you. I stayed behind to make sure you are safe. Mr. Greco will be fine.”

I lowered my eyes, muttering, “I feel like you've got some secrets.”
