“Which she does,” comes a male voice from the man beside her who has a baby strapped to his chest. He doesn’t spare me a glance, his eyes fully trained on the woman in front of him and he presses a kiss to her temple before moving away.

“Well,” I say, feeling a blush rise to my own cheeks. “That was adorable.”

She waves a hand and smiles. “Yeah, I guess I’ll keep him.”

Judging by the rings on her left hand, I would say that he’s the one that’s gonna keep her.

“You know, I’m a big cookie person. So, I think I’ll need one of each.”

Her eyes widen and she looks at the assortment. “There’re a dozen different flavors.”

I shrug and give a face. “Is that okay?”

“Yes!” She laughs and grabs a bag, using tongs to carefully wrap each cookie before placing them inside. “Of course, it is. My kind of gal.”

“Awesome.” I grab some cash and hand it over.

“So, are you a local? I haven’t seen you around before.”

“Oh no.” I wave my hand and smile. “I’m actually here to surprise my boyfriend but couldn’t resist stopping for sweets.”

Her eyes light up. “Oh! Who’s your boyfriend? A local, I assume.”

I look around at the hordes of people here. It’s unlikely she knows who Warren is, given how many people are here now, but if she does and has seen him, she could point me in the right direction.

“Warren Blake,” I tell her and she smiles broadly.

“No way! I heard he was seeing someone.” She squints and thinks. “Are you Jane?”

I blink in surprise. “Uh, yes. Yes, I am.”

“That’s so amazing! I’m so glad to have met you. I’ll tell you; his mama has been talking about you nonstop. Bragging about how Warren got himself a real woman, how he’s completely in love and she can’t wait for—” She rolls her eyes at herself and waves a hand at me. “Well, you know, just an excited mother talking, I’m sure.”

“Oh, wow,” I reply, stunned. I had no idea Warren had talked to his mom about me at all, or that she was so excited about it. Let alone talked to the local people, bragging about the fact Warren and I were together.

“I myself heard about you from Graham.”

“Graham…” I say the name and then it clicks. “Oh, duh. Graham Trevors.”

“Yes.” She nods and then her gaze moves over my shoulder and her eyes light up. “Speak of the devil!”

“Oh, wow, you flatter me.” Up walks a tall man with a nice beard and thick brown hair, he stands over six feet easily and has that good ol’ country boy look about him that just has him fitting in so seamlessly. He glances at me and gives me a polite nod.

“Graham, this is Jane, Warren’s girl.” I feel my cheeks heat at that and am thankful for the sunglasses that cover my eyes, hiding at least some of my mortification.

“Oh shit.” He looks at me then and gives me a charming grin. “I’ve heardsomuch about you.”

“Wow,” I say and let out a breath. “I’ve been hearing that lately. I had no idea it was such news.”

“Well, we’re a small town. Gossip is what we do,” the woman in the booth says. “I’m Aveline, by the way.”

I shake her hand and then watch her and Graham as they converse, I finally hand the cash in my hand over to her and she hands me my large bag of cookies.

“Well, it was so nice to meet you both. I’m gonna go search for Warren.”

“I just saw him.” Graham gestures over his shoulder. “He’s headed toward the Iron Horse brewery booth with the group.”

I thank them both and make my way down the long aisle of booths, searching for the one I’d just passed and finally, setting eyes on the man I love. His head is thrown back in a laugh and I smile.
