As I lay in bed listening to her breathe, I think of how we almost lost something that has the potential to be what her parents had. Hefty thoughts for 2:00 a.m., but here I am imagining what a full life with Lindsey will look like. I’ll do just about anything to have that. I want all her sweet smiles and all her moans and soft gasps. I want all her happy moments and to be there with her through all her hard ones. I want to make her coffee every morning and spend nights on our patio watching the stars. Yesterday I didn’t think it was possible. Today I’m riding high on hope.

A few hours later, I wake up with the sun and can’t keep the wide smile from stretching across my face as I stare at the ceiling. I grab my phone and pull up Lindsey’s name right away.

Me: Hurry home Sunshine

Lindsey: Be home soon.

Nothing has ever made me happier than when I see those words.

I jump out of bed and grab sheets to remake it since I stripped it in a fit of rage last night. These don’t smell like Sunshine, but that will be remedied as soon as she gets home.

My phone notifies me of a new text, and I hope it’s Lindsey telling me she’s on her way now. Maybe I should just go get her, but I don’t want to seem like I’m completely desperate for her, even though that’s exactly what this feeling is. I grab the phone from the nightstand.

Not Lindsey.

It’s Liam.

Shit. I was so fucking relieved to hear Lindsey’s voice last night, I didn’t even think about texting Liam.

Liam: Knew I could count on you. I’ll be in touch.

I didn’t think he would have found someone else between the time we left the bar and when I texted him last night, but fuck if I didn’t wish he had right about now. I’ve never been one to back out of a commitment and that won’t change now, but all I can think as I make the bed is how the hell am I going to tell Lindsey?

Chapter eighteen

Lindsey

WhenItoldmymom about going home today, she had a soft, knowing smile on her face.

“You’re making the right call, sweet girl,” she says, as though she knew I would come to this conclusion in the light of a new day.

So why are there butterflies rioting in my stomach as I walk up to the door of our apartment?

The key is barely in the lock before the door swings open and there stands Aiden, freshly showered and looking oh so lickable.Damn hormones, calm the hell down.

He smiles and touches his hand to his chest.

“Sunshine,” he breathes out. “Get in here.”

I throw myself at him and he catches me mid jump like I knew he would. This man will always catch me.

Wrapping my legs around his waist, I rain kisses all over his neck and face as he carries me into the apartment.

When he closes the door, I unlatch my mouth from his neck and press my forehead to his, our eyes trained on each other. The relief he feels that I’m back and in his arms is clear in his gaze and by the small smile playing on his lips.

“Hi,” he whispers.

“Hi back.”

That’s all we say before he smashes his mouth to mine, rendering both of us speechless. With our mouths fused together and tongues dancing, he carries me over to the couch and sits down with me straddling his lap. Every inch of our bodies mold together as he holds me tightly to him, running his hands up and down my back before gripping my hips and pulling me harder into his erection. I move over him, rubbing myself over every inch of his hardness in an effort to get even closer. He moans into my mouth and breaks the kiss but keeps his lips so close to mine that we share the same air. Both of us are panting with need and anticipation.

“Have you had breakfast?” he grits out.

I nod, biting down on my lower lip as I continue to rub my center over his hard length. Why is he talking about breakfast right now?

“I’m warning you now, we won’t be getting out of bed for a while. So, if you’re hungry, tell me before we keep going because once I start with you, we won’t be stopping.”

I lean back with a lustful smile full of promise and lift my shirt over my head, tossing it somewhere behind me. I don’t care where it lands. I just need it off.
