“I love you too, angel.”

The crowd started to get more boisterous, fighting to get closer to us as the police struggled to hold them back. Matt tapped my shoulder and motioned to the waiting cars. I swept Emmy up in my arms, pulling her tight to my body so we could move through the swell. She gripped onto me, laughing as I carried her.

“Put me down, Tanner.”

“I’ll put you down when I know you’re safe, angel.”

“Why is you protecting me so hot, Tan?” she whispered into my ear and I struggled to stop my cock swelling beneath my pants.

I lowered her into the car and Matt joined us in the front before the driver pulled away.

“Welcome to LA, Emmy.”

Emmy

Tenchapterswerewritten, and I was proud of the tone and feel of the book. When I wrote, it never felt like my voice, it was always theirs. And in this book, there were four voices. It had been a challenge, but I was loving writing their individual stories and working out how to wrap them together into the Cosmic Gods they were when they were together.

I couldn’t wait to get back to writing more tomorrow. Knowing there might still be a mole around, I locked my laptop and notes in the safe in my room and secured my door.

I headed out into the communal area of the huge LA penthouse to find Maverick sitting on the sofa. In the book, I’d unpicked his story the least. It wasn’t like he was a closed book like Tanner tried to be. It was more that he didn’t think his story was worth sharing. It was time to change all that.

“Hey, Mav. What you doing?” I asked, flopping into the seat next to him.

“Struggling with jet lag, Em. What are you doing?”

“I need to see the sea. You wanna come with me?”

“Me and you on an adventure? Hell yeah.” He clapped his hands enthusiastically. “What do I need?”

“Some shorts because it’s hot as hell out there and maybe some security so we don’t get kidnapped by weirdos.”

“Meet you back here in ten,” he yelled, leaping off the sofa.

Ten minutes later, we were wandering out of the hotel, flanked by four of Thomas’ men, Matt, and Eli, Mav’s normal bodyguard. The unfamiliar LA sun warmed my skin, and I was glad I’d put my sunglasses and cap on. I linked my arm through his as we walked across the road to the hotel’s private beach.

As soon as my feet sank into the soft white sand, I squealed. “Shit, Mav, we’re in LA.” Even the sand felt more glamorous than the beaches I was used to. “You want to swim?” I asked, running into the sea, splashing around in the waves as Mav stared at me.

“Come on, it feels amazing. It’s warm. Get your ass in here.”

“I can’t swim.”

“What, really?” I questioned, shocked because I knew how much Tan loved the water, so I’d just guessed they’d all feel the same. “Well, I promise, I won’t let you drown.”

“Okay, Emmy, but my survival is on you. No pressure.”

I screamed as a wave hit me, knocking me over. I pushed up through the water, spluttering, my shorts and t-shirt soaked through. “Mav, we might needDavid Hasselhoffto stop us from drowning. I don’t think I’m qualified.”

He laughed loudly as he stripped off his t-shirt, and walked into the sea, looking every bit the Cosmic God he was. “Hell, it is warm,” he declared, splashing water at my face.

“And so salty. Stop doing that. Ugh.”

“Jellyfish,” Mav screamed, and we both ran out of the water. As he fell to the sand, he shouted, “Just kidding!”

“Oh my God. You’re evil,” I panted out breathlessly. Sitting down on the sand next to him, I asked him what I’d been wanting to talk to him about for days. “Mav, can I ask you a question?”

“You can, Ems, but let me see if I can guess it… is it something about how you’ve got to know my siblings, but your book is void of much related to me?”

“That was exactly it. How did you know?” Despite how confident and unfased Mav seemed, I always got the sense that he was hiding something from the world.
