“What are you doing up, firefly?” Gray asked, trying to distract her.

“I need French Toast. It’s all I can think about. What’s going on? And don’t lie to me again, Ethan. I don’t think I can cope with it. Honesty, remember? I can’t do this if you change that.”

“Sorry, I just want to protect you.”

“I don’t need protecting. I need French Toast, coffee, and honesty. Please.”

I moved to the fridge, grabbing the eggs so I could cook for her. “Thomas is worried about Hazel. They can’t find her. He’s worried she’s coming here. For us.”

“If I see that bitch, I will kill her myself,” Ivy fired out, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Sit princess, save your strength and let me make you that French Toast and coffee.”

Chapter 37

Grayson

Iwatchedasshedevoured two slices of French Toast and then stole another one from Ethan’s plate. “It’s nice to see you getting your appetite back, firefly."

“I’m so hungry. This is so good. I’m not even sorry for stealing yours.” She laughed, placing a kiss on each of our cheeks.

“You’re looking more like you, princess. I can’t tell you how happy that makes me.”

“Well, after this I’m going to wash my hair and use condition and then I’ll look even more like me,” she replied with a wink.

“How’s your hip?” I asked.

“Killing me, and so are my ribs and now my back.”

“Give it time, firefly. It’s only been a few days.”

“I still think you should see a doctor,” Ethan argued.

“Thomas’ wife is a doctor. Maybe she can check you over,” I suggested, desperate to not add to her stress levels.

“She’s a heart doctor and now I’m home with the two men I love more than anyone in the entire world, my heart is fine.”

“Now it's your smooth mouth that is going to get you in trouble, princess. I would appreciate it if you let Melissa take a look at you though.”

"Fine, I will. I promise."

“Firefly, I have something for you.” I pulled her bracelet from my back pocket and fastened it on her wrist, placing a kiss on her summer star tattoo, watching her gasp and pull her hand to her heart, a giant smile spreading across her face.

“Where did you find it?”

“At the lake. Amos left it by the water’s edge and your phone on a bench. Thomas thought…” I struggled to finish that sentence, wondering if the image of the lake being searched would ever fade from my mind.

“Thomas thought what?” Ivy's face pinched in confusion as she looked at Ethan and I.

I swallowed down the lump in my throat before I could speak. “That you’d chosen to leave us. Walked into the lake and gave up. Drowned. He called in divers to search for you. For your body.” I had to pause and grip the counter while I shook off the memory of the fear I’d felt down by that lake. Ethan wrapped his arms around me from behind while we remembered that shared moment of absolute terror as we waited to hear from the divers.

She shook her head, tears filling her eyes. “No. No, I would never. I’m so sorry. I can’t believe Thomas thought that about me.”

“He didn’t. He was looking at the evidence. There was no sign you’d been taken. It looked like you’d given up. He had to check.”

Ivy lurched forward, crying out in pain as she moved too quickly, seemingly not caring about her injuries, desperate to reach us both, pressing frantic kisses to both our faces punctuating the words she spoke. “Never. Not in a million lifetimes would I choose to walk away from either of you. I love you. I want to be with both of you forever. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I was angry. I needed space. But I won’t ever give up on us.”

Ethan wrapped his hands around her waist as her body melted into his. “Thank fuck for that, princess, because I can’t ever feel like I did that day or for the last week, wondering if I’d driven you to leave us.”
