HANNA

He closes the gap between us, his hand falling to the fringe at the bottom of my old homecoming shirt. A smile spreading effortlessly across his lips, the same one I fell in love with so many years ago.

"Nice shirt."

I giggle, spinning around, "I thought so. I ditched the dress, put this on, and completed the look with my runaway bride tennis shoes."

"Lexie would be so proud."

I roll my eyes, "Lexie would rip this shirt to pieces."

"Probably so, but I can promise there isn't a single thing I would rather see you in. This shirt," His fingertips brush around my back near his name, "Is everything."

"No, Jameson. We are everything. I read your letter."

His chest deflates, a relief washing over him, "You don't know how crazy it is to hear you say that, but you were never meant to read that letter."

"No, what's crazy is acting like my heart stood a chance of belonging to anyone but you. I just can't believe I almost walked down the aisle to the wrong man."

He runs his hand through his hair, "Yeah, that was a close one," he smirks, "Made me sweat a little."

"So about that dance," I grin, "you know the one under the stars?"

"Right now?" He questions, rolling up the sleeves of his dress shirt.

I shake my head, and he pulls me close to him by the hand, twirling me into his embrace. "We've come a long way, huh?"

"Yeah, we have. Sometimes things have to go a little sideways before they finally level out."

He kisses the top of my head, "So what does this mean for us?"

I pull back, looking into his eyes, "It means I don't want to live a day without you."

He tilts my chin up to his lips, capturing them with the most possessive yet calming kiss I've ever had. A million stars flooding behind my closed eyes. My entire body nearly melting against his.

My eyes flutter back open, and I find him staring into them.

"Guess we have a lot to figure out."

"The most important thing is that no matter what, you don't disappear," I smile, "No more self-sabotage."

"I don't know much about where I'll end up over the next few years with the Air Force and all, but I do know that wherever I go, I'm taking you," He cheeses, "and our daughter."

I lift myself up to my tiptoes, whispering into his ear, "You better."

He tackles me into the grass, my giggling and squealing filling the night air.

“Shut up, you are gonna get us arrested.” He laughs.

“Please,” I flip my hair over my shoulder, “Officer Jerry is probably eating skittles in his office and watching How I Met Your Mother.”

He smiles, teasing his fingers along the edge of my ripped-up shirt, clutching my hips with his hands.

I stare up at him, “Would you have stopped the wedding?”

He laughs, “I told you I’d love you from the sidelines, but when have you ever known me to be a sidelines kind of guy?”

A roar of laughter escapes, “Yeah, you aren’t really the benchwarmer type.”
