“I suppose,” I say. “But that only works when our magicae doesn’t flash gold and out us.”

“Most people will assume you’re a time witch,” he says. “Maybe even a light witch if there’s not too much mystery about you.”

“Hm.”

He opens a door, which leads to a giant library. “This is my space. Nobody will bother us here.”

Vitalis drops Etrix on the sofa before grinning at me.

“Now, I could get a healer—”

“Yes.”

“Or—”

I shake my head, and he mutters under his breath before walking over to Etrix. I think Vitalis will get along with my mates—Ryes, and Mael to be specific.

“Sana,” he murmurs. As Etrix begins to stir, Vitalis goes out of vision. I walk over to Etrix, and kneel on the floor next to him as his amber eyes open to meet mine.

“Are you okay?” he asks, cupping my cheek. He groans before I can even reply. “Fuck, my head is pounding.”

“Here,” Vitalis says, shoving a drink at him.

“Ugh,” Etrix mutters, but he takes it and downs it in one. He sticks his tongue out as he shakes his head. “That’s vile.”

“But it’s fixed your headache,” Vitalis replies with a shrug.

“Now, I want to know what the fuck you think you’re thinking. What are you doing here?” Vitalis snarls, glaring at Etrix.

“Wait… you two know each other?” I gasp before I realise what an idiot I sound like. Of course they know each other. Vitalis flounders, and Etrix reaches for me, but I stand up and walk away from them both.

I direct my words to Vitalis, barely holding onto my calm. “I took the memory of you from Ryes to keep you safe. For the last month, I’ve kept your secret and hidden it from all of my mates. Every single visit we’ve shared, I’ve lied and not told them the full truth. I’ve struggled so that you could be safe. And all along… Etrix knew? I could’ve had someone to talk to? Someone to understand?”

Tears drip down my cheeks, but this time, they’re tears of anger, so I leave them. Vitalis’s face drops, his mouth opening, but he doesn’t speak. His words from inside the gym come back to me, when he asked if Necos knew I was here.

I presumed it was because I’ve mentioned Necos to him, but it’s more than that, isn’t it?

“You know Necos, too?” I ask, my voice cracking as shame fills his gaze. “The three of you know each other, and are what…? What’s going on here?”

“Princess, take a deep breath for me, please,” Etrix pleads, his panicked tone doing very little to soothe me.

“She’s going to blow,” I hear Vitalis say.

“Go fuck yourself, Vexus.”

“Stop fighting,” I plead, clutching at my head as their thoughts overtake my brain. I cry out as my magicae escapes from me, instantly going into the wards, but also into both of my connections. I drop to my knees, and continue to sob, as more and more power is drawn from me.

“Princess,” Etrix soothes, kneeling on the floor next to me. He doesn’t come too close, something I both appreciate and hate.

“Elzora,” Vitalis calls, reaching out with his own magicae to soothe me, but it’s not enough.

I push back, trying to reject it, but then Etrix’s joins in. Etrix’s warm, safe magicae that feels like pure light as it fills me up.

Eirik’s calm, steady, reassuring magicae joins the trio.

A darkness, one that is attributed to my dark mate Ciar, comes next. It merges with Etrix’s, charging up within me even more.

The light, floatiness of air comes next, along with the cheeky, overwhelming nature of my Ryes.
