“And it’s very cute,” Vitalis adds.

“Fuck off, Vex,” Etrix says.

“Vex?” I ask before groaning. “What is your name?”

“What have you been calling him?” Etrix asks with a raised brow.

“Vitalis,” I say, and he frowns. “What?”

“Did you come up with that?” he asks.

“No. Zohar did,” I reply. Etrix beams, and Vit…Vex glowers. “There’s another man, too. Spyte.”

“Spyte?” They both echo, and the identical confused expressions on their faces are kind of cute.

“The man you’re usually with,” I say to Vit…Vex. “Okay, what is your name? Because it’s kind of hurting my head having to correct myself, and—”

“Vexus,” he replies. “But I prefer Vitalis.” He glares at Etrix before gifting me with a grin that lights up my entire soul. “But only from you.”

I nod slowly, a blush definitely coating my cheeks.

“So, Spyte,” Etrix says.

“Let’s just stick with that for now,” Vitalis says. “He’s the leader of our organisation, little love, and his secrets are his own to keep.”

“I can respect that,” I say, even if curiosity is burning within me. “Now, why are you two fighting?”

“Your mate is a prick, little love,” Vitalis says, just as Etrix says the exact same thing.

“Perfect,” I mutter, rubbing my temples. “Now, where does Necos fall into all of this? I thought he was here on Mr Downey’s orders.”

“That’s something I wasn’t aware of,” Etrix says, coming to sit by me. “But before we get into all of this, can we talk about you?”

“About me?”

“The breakdown you just had?” Vitalis asks, and I sigh.

“Okay, that was a questionable moment,” I say, but neither of them are satisfied. “It was a lot. Going from Grius, to you showing up, to knowing that you know each other…”

“To keeping secrets from the rest of your connections?” Vitalis asks, coming to sit on the coffee table in front of me. I nod, and he rests his elbows on his knees. “Etrix says that he’s planning on sharing his role within the organisation with your group tonight.”

“That is the plan,” Etrix says.

“Okay, so that should help once they’ve decided upon initiation,” Vitalis says, and I nod slowly. “The secrets are not forever, Zoe.”

“I know,” I whisper. “And I’m sorry. That’s not something I should have thrown in your face like I did. It’s something important, and you’re not asking me to keep a secret just because.”

“No, but that doesn’t mean I can’t feel the toll it’s having on you. The pain in your soul at having to be dishonest,” he murmurs, reaching out to touch me. He stops just before his fingers connect with my cheek, a look of unsureness on his face.

I make the decision for him and lean into his touch. He gently strokes my cheek, and we both relax.

“How do we think they’re going to take it?” Vitalis asks Etrix without breaking eye contact with me.

“Ryes already knows,” I say, and Vitalis’s nostrils flare. I reach out and pat his knee, sending a little bit of reassuring energy his way. It seems to affect him more than it does the others, and a look of pleasure rushes across his face before he tampers it down. “Not about you. Not anymore. I didn’t lie when I said that I took his memory from him.”

“No, I don’t think you did. I was just surprised.”

“But he knows about me,” Etrix says, and I nod. “The little spy listens to your mind all the damn time.”
