“Can… do you think I’ll be able to give everyone their memories back?” she asks, hunching over as she looks down at Ryes. “The ones he took?”

“Yes,” Necos answers instead of Ryes. Zoe’s eyes dart his way, a frown on her face. “You’re stronger than Vex, Zoe, and you’ll be able to do it with ease.”

“That fucker messed with my mind?” Mael demands, and once again his veins flash red. He’s so predictably unhinged.

As they continue to bicker and discuss what he could’ve taken, I focus on Ciar. He’s upset, and his feelings are overwhelming me, but they’re not at Zoe. No, he’s still completely enamoured with ouranima nexumand actually seems unconcerned about getting his stolen memories back.

No, he’s pissed off at Etrix. I know that the two of them are going to have it out after this, and I can honestly say that Etrix deserves it. I do think it’s going to result in their bond, though.

“Restituo,” Zoe says just before a ringing sound echoes in my ears, and a sharp pain races through my skull. My eyes blur as a pounding, dull ache continues to bombard my head.

Flashes race through me, and my head slumps back onto the sofa as my senses are overwhelmed. It’s too much to hold onto, a sick feeling rising in my stomach as the dizziness makes it worse.

It’s like I’m motion sick, but it won’t stop because my mind won’t stop.

“Is he okay?” Zoe gasps, her slender fingers gently checking my pulse. “That’s fast.” Panic fills her tone, and I hate myself for being the cause. “What’s wrong with him?”

“He’s struggling with the memories coming back,” Eirik says, his familiar voice a steady presence through the storm within my brain. “Can you help soothe him with me, darling?”

She doesn’t answer, but it doesn’t matter because I feel her magicae rushing through me anyway. It’s a balm on the soul. Eirik’s hand touches my shoulder before I feel his magicae running through me. He’s casting in his head, calming the raging thoughts, and guiding me through using a combination of air talents and water talents.

I blink, multiple times, as the dramatics fade, and my mind comes back to me, thanks to both of them.

Silence has never sounded so fucking good.

“Well, that fucking prick owes us when we see him,” Ciar says, and Mael nods.

“Fucking stupid cunt,” Mael snarks, a rude gesture accompanying his words. “I bet he’s—”

“Nice,” Zoe says, moving to sit with me instead of going back to her armchair with Ryes. The sweet, unprompted gesture makes me smile as I tug her into my lap. Ryes grumbles, and crawls over to remain by her.

Before anyone can crack a joke about Ryes’s dependency issues, a portal opens, and Jasper steps through, a pissed off expression on his face that he stupidly directs towards ouranima nexum.

“Did you not bother to tell me we had moved the party up to now?” he demands, cocking his hip as he glowers at her. “Did you not think to let me know you were okay after leeching all my fucking power? Do I mean that little to you?”

“Leeching?” she whispers, horror filling her tone.

“You offered that magicae up, dickhead,” I snap, cuddling Zoe in closer as I narrow my eyes at him. Jasper returns the gesture, but his is a sneer that has me raging inside. At least until Ciar fixes it.

I smirk when Jasper howls before righting himself. Ciar has snapped Jasper’s ankle with a silent spell, and it makes me even happier that Zoe didn’t even acknowledge his pathetic yowl.

The only reason I know it was Ciar is because of the way he’s snickering into his fist, and it’s the only time he’s shown anything other than anger since we’ve been here.

I glance down at the beauty on my lap, and realise why she didn’t react to Jasper’s pain-filled cry. It’s because she’s crying herself, and trying to hide it.

Jasper hobbles over to the empty armchair, which was probably a stupid move. He’s placed himself right in physical reach of Ciar, and he’s already proven he’s willing to do anything to harm Jasper.

Despite the pain he’s in, Jasper doesn’t ask me to heal him. He just continues with his stuck-up rant. “Regardless of the magicae situation, I’d have liked to be informed that you were home and safe. I tried to follow you through the bond—”

“But couldn’t,” Erik finishes, and Jasper gives one curt nod. “Yeah, we ran into that issue, too.”

“She wasn’t with you?” Jasper hisses, his eyes darting around the room as he gets even more pissed off. “Who the fuck was she kissing then?”

“I’m sorry,” Zoe says, but I don’t think he hears her with the way both Mael and Ryes start shouting at him. Jasper eagerly replies, and it becomes an all out fight.

“Are you okay?”I ask, kissing her shoulder.

She sighs, and shakes her head.My poor dragonfly.
