“Enough!” Zoe snaps, frustration radiating in her tone as her magicae backs her. Gold flashes dart around the room, silencing everyone more than her words did. She waits until everyone settles before sighing. “We’ve got a lot to go through. Can we just do that, please?”

“Sure,” I reply.

“Like what?” Jasper asks.

“Well, like I started with: Etrix and Necos are rebels.”

And Jasper groans as he looks at the time witch. “Really?”

“Really,” Necos replies, a tension in his shoulders that is rare to see on the time witch.

“How did you get into that life?” Zoe asks.

“I was recruited,” Necos says with a shrug.

“Did you two know you were—” Ryes asks, or tries to but Etrix shakes his head with an angry scoff.

“Nope. Necos is double-teaming everything,” he says, leaning forward to glare at Necos. “What’s the fucking deal with you and Theran?”

“I owed Theran a favour,” Necos says. “He asked me to repay it by helping you discover your magicae type, Zoe. He brought me in on the whole Princess thing, but when the offer came to me, I took it to my boss and let him decide.”

“I see,” she murmurs, and even Etrix nods. “Why did you not tell Etrix?”

“Why should I?” Necos replies, with a confused expression on his face.

“He didn’t tell me because he didn’t know about me either,” Etrix says, and both Mael and Ryes burst into laughter as Necos rolls his eyes, but doesn’t argue against it.

“I want to know everything,” Eirik says.Shit.His tone is icy cold, his face is furious, and he’s staring his brother down. “I want to know what made you a traitor.”

“Don’t,” Zoe says, turning on my lap to look at heranima nexum. Eirik looks her way for a second before dismissing her. “Etrix is not a traitor.”

“Do you know the meaning of the word, Ellie baby?” Mael asks, amusement clear in his voice.

“You don’t talk to her until you fucking apologise, you defected fucking candle,” Ryes snarls.

“What?” Mael demands.

“You heard him,” I say, backing Ryes.

“Mal, it’s fine.” Our girl is trying to keep the peace, aware that things are blowing up all over the place right now, but we’re never ever going to let one of the others disrespect her without holding them accountable.

“No. They’re right,” he says with a shake of his head. “I’m sorry. No matter how mad I am, I should never fucking shout at you.”

“Amen!” Ryes cheers.

“You, hush,” I command, kicking his thigh.

“But also, I’m sorry for implying you were cheating or—”

“Cheating?” she gasps, her hands grasping her cheeks as pure shock fills her face.

“Vitalis, or Vexus, or my personal favourite: prick—”

“Your point?” I drawl looking at Mael in amusement.

“Fine, sorry. He’s in our bond, Ellie, he’s inyourbond. It wasn’t cheating. I was upset that you had a panic attack, I was upset I couldn’t get to you, and I’m slightly jealous he was there and able to calm you down after.”

“Um.”
