“A big lugwithbig lugs,” Ciar says, causing Tien to laugh. Etrix doesn’t react.

“Would you wear it?” Faye asks, turning to me with the biggest expression of hope on her face.

“Absolutely.”

She grins, and darts off with Owlyn to grab it.

“Thank you,” Etrix murmurs, and I look up at him. “You’ve really made her day.”

“You don’t need to thank me.”

“Got it,” Owlyn says, coming back through a few moments later. She’s holding a dainty little tiara, which is gold, and has some diamonds in it. It’s elegant, and beautiful, and I’m so touched that they’re letting me borrow it.

Owlyn gestures for me to lower my head so that she can put it in place. I do, and she puts it on before gently adjusting my hair to help.

“Perfect,” Etrix and Faye say the moment she’s done. I raise my head, the weight feeling so much more meaningful than just a pretty crown.

One day… one day I’ll be wearing a crown like this for real, and there will be real responsibilities that come with it.

“You look fit to be a princess,” Tien says before groaning. “Excuse me. My brother is whining.”

“Have fun with that,” Ciar teases.

She heads out of the shop, and both women turn to us with identical looks of intrigue.

“So, what have you been keeping from your mama?” Faye demands.

“Nothing,” Etrix protests.

“You’ve not managed to keep a secret from me since you were born,” Owlyn adds.

Etrix panics, and I can’t help but giggle.

“What’s so funny?” he chokes out.

“You,” I say, and even Ciar is amused.

“Come with me,” Faye demands, and Etrix groans. “Do you want a scolding in front of youranima nexum?”

“He might not, but I totally want it to happen,” Ciar says, and Faye shakes her head in amusement. Etrix walks off with his mum.

“So, do you truly love this?” Owlyn asks.

I nod, looking at myself in the mirror Faye had brought out earlier.

My dress is gold, obviously, since that’s Etrix’s colour. It’s got short-sleeves, with crossed straps on the back. Owlyn used her drawings to find a shape that suited my frame, and with her magicae, it fits extremely well.

It’s a tulle material, with a scoop neck, and is a princess gown—like Etrix says, fit for a princess. The back is see-through, and the beading is all glittery gold. It looks like little fireflies are on it with how bright the glitter is.

I truly love it, and I’m not just saying that because Etrix’s family made it for me.

“Good.” Owlyn smiles. “Now, Eirik is an elemental witch, correct?”

“Yes.”

“Do you want my suggestions?” she asks, looking at Ciar. I nod, and she beams at me, before pointing out where she’d put the different colours.

Etrix and Faye return a little while later, long after I’ve changed back into my uniform and spent time chatting with Ciar and Tien, and Etrix seems happy.
