“Fuck, I need to find him.”

By the look on Aspen’s face, he knew he was probably acting crazy because he clutched the coat in his hands, but he couldn’t put it down or walk away.

He was also incredibly surprised that his cock was harder than it’d ever been, and his body ached because of the need to mate. Fuck, could it be his mate that he’d waited decades for? And why the fuck was her scent on his brother’s jacket? A wave of jealousy hit hard.

No, if it were his mate, his brother wouldn’t be able to get an erection. Only with a mate did the male wolves feel desire. All other women didn’t exist.

The jacket was still in his hand when he pulled up to the Sheriff’s Department and jogged into the building. He headed toward his brother’s office and slammed the door behind him.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Hunter asked.

“This jacket.”

“Yeah, it’s mine, but you can wear it if you want.”

“No, I want to know why it smells like peaches and cream.”

Hunter scowled. “I don’t smell it.”

“The scent is strong. Man, I think whoever this is, is my mate.”

Hunter straightened. “No shit?”

“No, I’m not kidding. I’ve got a hard-on that could pound nails, and I’m fighting to keep my wolf back as I’ve had to do before. Now, who the hell is it?”

“It’s a woman who came to town last night. I met her in the diner. Hell…”

“What?” Roman asked.

“That’s why I felt so brotherly toward her. It was an emotion I’ve never had before.”

“Where the fuck is she?”

“She’s at the motel, but brother, you have to dial it back a bit, or you’ll scare the shit out of her. She’s not a shifter, and she’s already anxious because of this stalker she has.”

“I want to know everything about it, but I need to see and touch her right fucking now.”

“All right. Let’s go, and I’ll show you,” Hunter said. “She’s supposed to meet me at the diner for breakfast.”

Roman growled and narrowed his eyes. “Why the fuck are you on a date with my mate?”

Hunter rolled his eyes. “It’s not a date. I’m trying to get her to stay in town so we can protect her and not move on as she wanted.”

“She’s not going anywhere,” Roman said.

Hunter nodded. “Good. She’ll be there, so you have to mellow out a bit.”

“Fuck, I don’t know if I can.”

“You’re going to have to or risk the possibility of losing her.”

“That’s not even an option. If what I’ve heard about the mating heat is true, even if she’s human, she’ll feel it too.”

Hunter slapped his back. “You lucky bastard. She’s a beauty.”

“Let’s go.”

Roman and his brother crossed the street and walked into the diner. The wolves in the room looked up at him, sensing something was going on, but he and his brother ignored them.
