“Good.” Samson’s smile widened. “Fuck off, Jamie, before I destroy everything you love.”

Wow. I gawked at Samson. “Overkill?”

“No. Overkill would be stripping his parents of their last income, forcing them to sell their home and making sure his father never got hired in this town.”

“Right. Anyway, I don’t need the kings’ help.” I’d figured something out. I went to sit down, but Samson stopped me. I was over people interrupting my breakfast. I’d only made it halfway through my burger and a few bites of my egg.

“Can you afford to refuse?”

I ground my teeth. I could have refused and did, but Samson had the top score in our class. He was obviously smart, and I’d be real stupid not to take the opportunity. “How much?”

“I don’t need your money.”

Fucking prick. “No shit, but I don’t like being in debt to anyone.”

Samson’s gaze was unnerving me. It felt like I was under a microscope, and he was studying every little part of me.

“I’ll come up with something.” He turned away, and the crowd that had been waiting for his attention stood up straight and instantly started smiling and talking to him.

He walked through them like it was normal to have all eyes on him. I’d go insane if it were me.

“Let’s go,” Samson said.

I glanced at my uneaten plate and then Samson’s back. “I haven’t agreed.”

“But you will.”

“You don’t know that for sure,” I said, snatching up the burger and both plates of pie. I left a generous tip as I followed. “I need to pay for my meal.”

“It’s already taken care of. Everything you do around here is taken care of.”

I stopped in my tracks just as we reached the parking lot. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“You ask many questions, yet you’re failing biochem.”

Samson stood next to my car, and I glared at him over the top. He still wore that smile that could con an old lady out of her purse.

“Fine. If I’m going to do this, drop the fucking fake ass smile.”

Samson showed no outward reaction in the normal sense. Years of watching people had me spotting the way his shoulders twitched. A second ticked by. I was starting to think he wouldn’t agree.

“Fuck it. I’m sure I can find someone else to tutor me.” Although Samson was the number one student in our school. Good looking and a genius. That meant his third trait had to be a sadist or some shit.

I stepped back toward the diner, but a warm, smooth hand wrapped around my wrist. I glanced down, and Samson instantly let me go. An emotion flitted across his face, but it was gone as fast as it had appeared. At least the smile was gone.

“Get in the car.”

“Do any of you know how to say please?” I headed back to my car. There was no way that guy was taking an apology after Samson broke his nose. Still didn’t know why he’d done it, but there was little I could do for him now.

I climbed into the car and started it, the purr vibration throughout my entire body soothing my worries for only a moment. Opening my eyes, I caught Samson staring at me intently. He seemed to do that all the time. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why. Whatever he was thinking wasn’t clear to me at all.

Rem was easy to figure out. She was a huge flirt, and her tactics to get under my skin seemed to be working. If I were honest, all of their tactics got under my fucking skin. Hawke was clingy but not in an annoying way. He was like a very affectionate cat. Luxious was an asshole. There was no other way to describe him. The man swore he was some kind of god.

“Where am I going?” I handed over both of my plates. “The least you could do is hold my stuff. Sitting there looking pretty isn’t good enough.”

I placed both hands on the steering wheel and stopped staring at Samson. He shouldn’t be that freaking gorgeous, but there was no amount of sex appeal that erased what kind of asshole he was. At least, that’s what my brain thought. My body, on the other hand? That bitch was thirsty.

“I’ve already sent you the address.”
