He moaned against my neck, and in that moment, I didn’t know how much longer I might last. Nothing could have prepared me for this, how intense it was. He’d told me there was an intimacy when their kind fed, and—Oh God… I moaned as he stroked me in a wicked, torturously slow rhythm. I could barely contain myself. I didn’t know how he’d held himself back all these years. Did these feelings go both ways?

“Is this—" I gasped when he dipped his finger inside me. "Is this what it’s like every ti—” My moan cut my words short as he penetrated me simultaneously at my throat and between my thighs.

“Only with you,mea luna.” His hot breath spilled over my neck as he drank. “Gods, you taste fucking amazing.”

That was it. I was done. His words sent me over the edge and my back arched as the release exploded in me and he moaned, holding me tightly as he drank deep one last time. His breath burned against my skin. His tongue passed over my wound, and an odd tingling sensation was left in its wake.

His body twitched under me, as if he himself had climaxed at the same time I had.

I melted back against him as the feeling continued to ripple through me. I could barely breathe as I tried to speak, my orgasm leaving me unable to think straight. It had been so much more intense than the first time we slept together. “Oh my God. What was that?”

“That...” He kissed my temple, breath ragged. “Is what I’ve wanted to do since I found you.”

“Did you—”

“I felt every bit of what you did, and the taste of it was divine,” he whispered into my ear. He pulled his hand free from my jeans, his arms wrapping around me as he cradled me against him. “Are you ok? I tried to not take too much, but Gods, it was difficult.”

My eyelids slid shut as I breathed. “I’m blissfully exhausted, mea sol. But I’m okay. Better than okay, honestly.”

He repositioned me so I sat sideways in his lap, and he pulled my head to rest against his chest as he held me. “Thank youmea luna.”

“For what? I should be thanking you.” My head rested against his shoulder, and his heart pounded beneath my ear as he held me tightly.

“For giving me more than I could ever ask of you.”

“Mea luna.” Damien’s soft whisper danced in the darkness of my sleep, and I shifted under our blankets. The gentlest brush of his lips grazed my brow, and I groaned as I opened my eyes.

Damien leaned over me, face positively glowing, and it was the sweetest sight to awaken to. “I know you didn’t sleep well last night. I would have let you sleep longer, but I didn’t want you to sleep the day away. It’s nearing noon.”

His words reminded me of how rough a night it had been. My sleep wasn’t as restful as I’d hoped, and true sleep had evaded me. The constant interruptions and irregular sleep patterns Marcus had subjected me to had thrown my internal clock out of balance. Damien hadn’t gone out to patrol for darklings with the others last night, which was a relief, as he needed a break.

While I should have been able to sleep through the night, I had only been able to sleep for an hour or two at a time before waking up, sometimes feeling startled and disoriented, forgetting that I was safe, that I was home. Damien had been there to comfort me every moment, but I felt guilty for interrupting his rest.

He sat back as I pushed myself up to sit, stretching my arms out as I yawned. “I’m sorry I kept waking you up.”

“Don’t worry about it,mea luna. I’m here for you every step of the way.” My eyes fell to his chest, and I was astounded to see that all his wounds had healed, leaving not a trace behind.

He smiled, cocking an eyebrow. “Like what you see?”

I met his smile with a coy grin of my own. “Ilovewhat I see.” I lifted my hand, feeling my neck where he had bitten me. I blinked, there was nothing there.

“Yeah, you won’t find anything. It’s a little trick we possess to hide our existence should we take from a human. That and the ability to erase a memory of our interaction so they have no memory of it happening.”

“That’s handy.”

A soft, low laugh reverberated from his throat, and he gestured to a tray on my nightstand. All my favorite breakfast foods, tea, and a beautiful bouquet of lupine of every color lay atop the table at my bedside. I gaped at the display, confused as I appreciated the floral beauty before me.

“Um…” I glanced back at Damien, unable to hold back the smile on my face. “What’s the occasion?”

He bit back his smile. “Did you forget your own birthday?”

I opened my mouth to speak but stopped as I recounted the days. Was it really? Had I been so caught up in everything the last week or two that I’d completely forgotten?

Itwasmy birthday.

“How did you know?” I asked.
