I ate most of the soup, drank the cup of tea, and sipped on the water. Afterward, I felt better. Normal.

“How are you?”

“Good. My head doesn’t hurt at all. Just a little tender but nothing to worry about. My leg is throbbing a little but I don’t think it’s serious.”

He tugged the blanket away as I looked down. “No, it’s not bad. A gash but not deep enough for stitches. I’m so thankful it’s nothing serious.”

“I’m okay. Promise. I want to get up. This room is stuffy.”

He nodded, unusually quiet as he helped me to my feet. I wobbled a little and he slipped an arm around me. “Want to sit out on the deck?”

“Sure.”

He led me outside and covered my lap with a blanket once I settled into a chair.

“This is nice. The weather is perfect.”

“It is.”

“Mack? You okay?”

“You were hurt inside my clubhouse. A place I swore you’d be safe. I’m fucking pissed, Charlotte.”

I stood up, moving next to him on the wooden bench. Lifting my legs, I put them over his lap and snuggled close. “Put your arm around me, old man.”

He snorted, but did what I asked. “Too old for you?”

“Nope. Perfect age gap, I think. I’ll know for sure later.”

“Later?” he asked, taking the bait.

“When you fuck me, my sexy silver fox biker.”

He blinked, somewhat stunned. His lips curled into a wicked grin. “Damn, sugar. I love it when you talk dirty.”

“You seem to bring it out in me.”

“I think it’s mutual.”

We sat in silence for a bit, then talked about what happened at the compound. I worried someone had been killed or seriously injured, but everyone escaped safely.

The sun slipped lower, hovering above the trees as Mack placed a kiss on top of my head.

“Answer me something, sweet girl, you ever watch a sunset turn into a sunrise?”

“What?” I asked, caught off guard by the question.

“It ain’t complicated, sugar.”

“No,” I huffed at his teasing.

“You’re lacking a lot of quality experiences in your life,” he drawled, taking my hand and threading his fingers through mine. “Tell you what. Let me fill you in on a little secret. Yeah?”

Bikers and their lingo. Still slightly annoyed at him, I narrowed my eyes, waiting for something snarky to tumble from his lips.

“Sometimes you got to unpucker that tight little hole in your ass and enjoy a good time.”

My jaw popped open, shocked he actually said those words to me. I couldn’t even form a response, just staring into those blazing dark blue eyes. “I suppose you think you’re slick telling me that. Like you’re a gift to women, offering to show me all your tricks,” I replied with a little snark.
