I need to find someone to tell!

Looking frantically around, I see Miles battling with a group of witches. Sebastian and Damien are doing the same, maybe twenty or thirty feet from them. If I teleported to them, I’d distract them from what they are doing.

Then I see Beba, Hunter, and Ryder taking down the last of the group they were fighting against. That’s where I’m going and teleport quickly, popping up behind the witch Beba just took down. Hunter and Ryder quickly shift to human form at my arrival, and out of nowhere, clothes appear on them. Beba gives me a wink, before tossing the potion off to the side. “You can thank me later.”

Shaking off what she said, I frantically rush out what I need to tell them. “Maverick’s dad is here.”

“Where?” Ryder asks and I point in the direction I just came from, but he’s not there.

“He was just there,” I cry out, not seeing him any longer.Where the hell did he go? It’s like he vanished into thin air.

Hunter screams out in pain as we all turn to look. A tree branch is protruding from his chest as he stumbles forward, falling into my arms as we both go to the ground. Looking behind where Hunter was standing, about fifty or so feet away, I see Mr. Michaelson and Hugo, with pleased looks on their faces.

Looking down, I see Hunter’s lifeless eyes glaring back up at me. No, this can’t be.

Chapter 23

Shay

Iscreamoutinagony. My heart rips in half seeing Hunter this way. Knowing that I’m the cause of this.

“We need Levi. I’m going to get him!” I scream out. He’s a doctor he can help. He’ll know what to do.

Ryder drops down beside me, taking his brother from my arms as tears stream down his face. Beba looks on, anguish on her face. She needs to protect them while I’m gone, and I need to hurry.

“Beba, we need a protective boundary.” She quickly begins to fumble through her pouch at my words.

Our attention is pulled to a blinding light that appears in the middle of the field, dropping two large men into the middle of the fight. They immediately begin throwing blasts of glowing flames out. My heart drops into my stomach because there is no way in hell we are any kind of match against that.

But when they start firing at our opponents, it seems we’ve been blessed with a miracle. Who sent them or who the hell they are, I don’t have a clue, but who looks a gift horse in the mouth? This is my time to go.

I scour the field, looking for his wolf. He’s here, and I just need to find him. Then I spot the tan wolf with the red stripe down his back. I pop out, stunning him when I show up beside him. I quickly latch onto his wolf and teleport back, not even taking the time to tell him what’s going on.

When we reappear, his wolf catches sight of Hunter and immediately shifts, rushing over to him, with no thought to his nudity.

“I don’t have another potion for clothing,” Beba rushes out, but our thoughts aren’t on that.

Dropping down beside him, he immediately checks his pulse. The frowned look on his face tells me there isn’t one.

“Was he shifted when this happened or human?” Levi asks as he examines the wound.

“Do something. Why aren’t you doing CPR? And no, he was human,” I scream at him, dropping down beside them.

The way he looks at me hopelessly sends shivers down my spine. “Ryder, Shay, there’s nothing I can do. He's gone. He’s dead.”

“No… Sebastian. He can turn him. Then everything will be okay. I just need to find him and get him here, he can help. Take that out of Hunter and I’ll go get Sebastian and bring him back. That’s all I need to do,” I ramble as I scramble to stand up, but Levi reaches out, grabs my wrist, and stops me.

“Shay, stop. Sebastian can’t help him. He can’t raise the dead. Hunter is gone. We need to put this to the side and get back out there. Once we’ve ended all this, we can mourn,” Levi sternly tells me.

What the fuck? He wants me to just forget about Hunter, my mate? Ryder pulled Hunter into his arms, tears streaming from his face, oblivious to the conversation going on between us.

“Fuck you, Levi. If this was your mate, the person you loved, you'd be fighting harder, finding a way.” Standing, I begin backing up.

My words to Levi are horrible and not true. I know in my heart he’d do anything to save him if he could. This can’t be. I let my eyes roam out at the battle going on outside of the protective boundary placed around us. I don't know who the men were who dropped in on us but they are fighting alongside our people to protect me, Chelle, and Beba.

Then across the way, I see him, staring back at me, a smile on his face and I see fucking red. My blood begins to boil and I want revenge. He needs to pay for taking the life of my mate. My other mates’ brother and friend.

A rippling sensation skirts along my skin, causing my hair to stand on end. My body becomes weightless as my anger builds, knowing one of the loves of my life has been taken from me.
