She waited and waited but there was no reply. What the hell did he think? He could appear in her life, announce himself as her boyfriend and then simply disappear? That was not how it worked. Annoyed now, she tossed her phone behind her.

“Whoa, is everything okay?”

Tiya whirled around on hearing her father’s worried voice.

“Oh, hi, Dad,” she greeted him. “Everything is fine.”

“Is it?” Her dad ventured into her room. “You have that look on your face…like you’re ready to hit something or, dare I assume…someone?”

Tiya rolled her eyes.

Her dad put an arm around her shoulder. “Is it Vihaan Rajpoot?”

Her throat clogged. Her dad knew her so well. He’d been her listening ear since childhood and she hated that she was deceiving him with regards to Vihaan and her fake relationship. But her parents had left her with no choice.

“Vihaan can drive me mad,” she replied. “But he’s cute. I like him.”

“Like him or love him?”

“Uh…both, Dad,” Tiya replied sounding nervous to her own ears.

“You’re not sounding very convincing to me.”

Tiya rubbed her sweaty palms down the side of her denims. God help her for lying to her parents.

“You kids these days… I don’t quite understand how quickly you get serious about someone when it’s onlylikeinvolved.” Her dad scrunched his face. “You introduced your man to us, you kissed him in front of all our friends, thankfully hidden behind a potted palm. And yet, you only speak of like and not love?”

“I assure you it’s more than like,” she said honestly.

There was a whole lot of lust involved too. Try as she might, she couldn’t forget his taste or the way his lips had moved under hers.

“I’m not talking about physical attraction, sweetie,” her dad replied, correctly surmising her situation.

She put both hands on her ears. “Not discussing that topic with you…like ever.”

He laughed, uncovering her ears.

“Is he right for you, my darling?”

“He could be.”

“He looks like a ruffian.” Her dad pointed to his balding pate. “I don’t have any hair, and he has way too much of it.”

She laughed. “Very funny, Dad.”

“What do you know of his family and his past?” her dad asked, all serious now.

“Uh…not much. Vihaan is very private.”

Her dad’s mouth hardened. He looked into the distance. “My dear girl, history has the habit of finding its way into our future.”

Before she could ask, what that random statement meant, her dad’s clear gaze lasered on her. “Would you stop seeing him if I asked you to?”

She frowned. “Is there something about him that makes him unsuitable?”

“No. I suppose, he’s suitable in every way—smart, rich, successful, handsome…despite the hair. I just…don’t think that he’s right for you.”

She scowled. “Then…no. I won’t stop seeing him if you don’t have a valid reason for me not to.”
