“No way,” he told her.

“But—”

“Put it back. And keep your hand on the cart.”

She pouted, but he just gave her a stern look. Sometimes he could be such a pimplebutt. When he turned to glance at something across the aisle, she slid slowly backward.

Damn, she moved like a ninja. Fast and quiet. She grasped hold of the chocolate mousse and turned back . . .

To find him looking straight at her, his arms crossed over his chest. “What did I say?”

“But Daddy, it’s so delicious.” And this was kind of hypocritical of him. “You guys eat dessert every night.”

“And I make it from scratch. It’s not filled with artificial crap. Except the decorations for cupcakes, but they’re for special occasions. What did I say?”

“That I couldn’t have it.”

“That’s right. I said no. And you’re going to have to learn to obey. Put it back.”

As she turned to slide it into place, he popped her twice on the butt.

“Ouch! Daddy!” she whisper-hissed, looking around in the hopes that no one had seen them.

“Ignore Daddy again and you’ll get more than two light taps.”

She wouldn’t call them light. Sheesh. But she was a good girl for the rest of the shopping trip. When they got close to the check-out a few minutes later, Zander stiffened and looked over her shoulder.

“What is it?” She turned to look but didn’t see anything.

“Felt like someone was watching us. Come on, let’s go.”

“I’ve got everything,” Webb said, wheeling his cart up to them. “Shoot, we should have shown Kiki around the town before we got the groceries.”

“I suppose you’ll just have to bring me back another time,” she said.

Zander just grunted as he loaded things up. She started helping. Webb’s cart was way more interesting than Zander’s.

Zander paid and boy, was that a huge grocery bill. It was more than most people’s rent. Then Zander and Webb pushed the carts outside while she held on, looking around her. This town was quaint and charming. With the mountains in the distance, it felt like a ski town or something.

Which reminded her . . .

“Where are we exactly?” she asked. “I don’t even know which state we’re in.”

“Colorado,” Zander told her. “About two hours from Denver. What are you doing?”

She blinked up at him, wondering why he was asking her that. Then she realized he wasn’t speaking to her.

No, he was talking to the beautiful woman who was currently sprawled over the hood of his truck, looking like one of those women you saw in a sexy calendar. She had blonde hair that glistened in the sun. Huge blue eyes and smooth, tanned skin. Long, lean, and toned, she was everything that Keira wished to be but never would be.

“I’m waiting to talk to you,” she replied.

“Awesome, you’re back,” Webb said in a dead voice she’d never heard from the big teddy bear. He glared at the woman.

“Why would you want to talk to me? And why would you sit on my truck?” Zander asked bluntly as Webb wheeled his cart around to the back of the truck.

“There was nowhere else to sit,” she said, shooting a glance at Keira, running her gaze over her then dismissing her.

“So stand.”
