“Why don’t they just go to a hospital,” she cried, tugging at her hair. This was unbelievable. Did they seriously expect her to just sit around and twiddle her thumbs, while Zander was hurt?

“Zander doesn’t trust hospitals,” Webb explained.

“He doesn’t like anyone taking care of him except for Webb or Doc,” Honey told her. There was something in her gaze as she watched Keira. “You’re really upset.”

Did she expect her to be having a party or something? Of course she was upset.

“But what if he bleeds out before Doc gets to him?”

“If it was that bad, Ammo would knock him out and take him to a hospital,” Webb told her gently. “He’s in good hands, Keira.”

“I don’t care. I need to see him.”

“Maybe we should take her,” Honey said.

The words came from the person she’d least expected to be on her side. Although Honey probably had an ulterior motive. Likely, she’d dump Keira on the side of the road somewhere and leave her.

“No,” Webb said firmly. “Zander’s orders are for her to stay here until he gets back. That’s what we’ll do.”

She needed Zander. Desperately.

He better be all right.

Otherwise, he was in big, big trouble.

“You know, I do have a life,” Doc grumbled at him. “I have things I need to do. I can’t just drop everything and come running whenever you want me.”

Zander waved away his complaints. Doc was always grumbling. Zander knew he was actually grateful to come help him. Poor guy rarely left Sanctuary Ranch. This was probably the most fun he’d had in ages.

“I know you miss me, Doc.”

“I don’t miss you, Zander. Was blindfolding me really necessary?” Doc grumbled as he checked the stitches he’d given him. “I got on that plane thinking I was going to Colorado and instead we’re somewhere else! Where are we?”

They’d flown Doc in two nights ago. They hadn’t wanted to move Zander too far, so they’d stopped at a motel and had Doc patch him up before moving on to the closest safe house. They’d only blindfolded him as they grew close to the safe house. Sure, he might trust him.

But he only trusted his team and Keira fully.

“It’s better that you don’t know where you are. Unless you want to come work for my team permanently.”

Doc scowled down at him. “I do not want to work for your team permanently. And you are not keeping me.”

Damn it. How did Doc know he’d been thinking of doing just that?

“You are not stealing me and if you think Kent would be all right with that, then you don’t know him that well.”

Hmm. He didn’t really care about pissing Kent off, but an extra-grouchy Doc wouldn’t be fun to live with.

“You need to get your own doctor,” Doc demanded.

“Webb can handle most things.”

“Just not gunshots and blood loss,” Doc muttered. “You should have gone straight to the hospital. What if you get an infection?”

“That’s why you’re here, right?”

“I can’t stay that long. I need to get back to what I was doing before you interrupted me.”
