Waggoner pursed his lips primly. I tried not to think about what I wanted to do to those lips.

“You know, I’m actually his boss. He shouldn’t be ordering me around at all.”

My smile got wider. My omega was so fucking brilliant. He must have fought tooth and nail to become so successful, and he wasn’t afraid to remind people of it, either.

“I know. But he was worried about you. He said he’d take your classes and you weren’t to worry about it. Said something about ‘being able to teach those dummies their two times tables in his sleep’ so, yeah.”

I was glad to see his lips twitch. Waggoner was restraining a smile.

“Yes, that sounds like Alder.”

“So you don’t need to go anywhere. You’re staying home. I can do everything you need.”

For the first time, Waggoner seemed to take stock of the fact I was in his flat, making myself at home. There was an awful moment when I thought he’d tell me to leave. Of course I’d go if he asked me, I wasn’t a dickhead. But I really, really hoped he wouldn’t ask.

Eventually, he said, “Thank you.”

It made me reckless. I grinned and said, “Why don’t you come back and sit on the couch. We can watch day-time movies and eat snacks.”

“I should get dressed…”

“No need. You’ve got a blanket over the back of your couch. We’ll snuggle under that.”

Not to mention, I could see my omega’s body if he didn’t get dressed. He was wearing loose-fitting boxer shorts and an old, faded t-shirt.

His eyes scanned my chest again.

“You might want to put a shirt on.”

“And deny you this view?” I waved a hand down my chest, enjoying watching his eyes track my movement and the slight catch in his breath. “I wouldn’t dream of it.”

Chapter 8: Waggoner

Annoyingly, I did like the view Liam was providing by standing there with his chest basically in front of my face.

And snuggling on the couch? My idea of heaven.

Only… Liam didn’t mean it the way I wanted him to. I guess he meant just sitting together, probably with distance between us.

Still, it was better than nothing and I didn’t get days off very often. If being a bit battered and bruised was going to bring me this kind of luck, I didn’t mind it so much.

Even as I agreed, I got the feeling that I probably shouldn’t if I wanted to maintain any dignity. But my mouth was running on a separate system to my brain and I found that I had agreed and followed Liam into the lounge while my brain was still processing all the reasons this would be a bad idea.

Liam was much more persuasive than I’d realised. I sat down at one end of the couch and Liam went to get us some snacks. He came back with a tray loaded with two glasses, a jug of juice, some cereal bars and an apple sliced into pieces.

“There’s not much,” he said, setting it down. “This was the last apple but I’ve ordered more.”

“You ordered food?”

“Yeah. I’ll grab it later. Do you like seafood? I wasn’t sure.”

“Yes, I like seafood. You know, you don’t have to—”

“What kind of movies do you like?”

“Uh, I guess I like anything.”

“Nuh uh. Truth. What do you like? Horror? Rom-coms? Serious dramas?”
