Reika’s face immediately blushed. “O-Oh …”

He leaned forward, pushing his wine glass out of the way so he could rest his forearms on top of the table.

“What’s your name? I didn’t get a chance to ask you before.”

She blinked at him. “Reika … you?”

He gave her another blinding smile. “Owen.”

FOUR

OWEN

He couldn’t help but want to swish Reika’s name over and over in his mouth. Reika. What a beautiful name for such a beautiful woman.

He ran his eyes over her heart-shaped face again, taking in her long blonde hair and dark-colored eyes … hard to see in such fading light. He’d been surprised at how tall she was, coming up to his shoulder when she stood after he accidentally knocked her down.

Her darting eyes made him bite the inside of his cheek. He could feel his wolf stirring inside, clawing to come out and take her by the arm, whisk her to someplace private so he could really see how plush those lips of hers were.

Owen opened his mouth, ready to ask her if she felt like getting out of there when he heard a gaggle of familiar voices wandering over to them. It made him groan internally.

“Yo! Owen!”

About half a second later, he felt a hard slap on his shoulder.

“What’s going on?” one of his packmates asked, gripping his shoulders tightly and shaking him slightly. “We lost you back there.”

He tried to give them all the evil eye, signaling that he waskind of in the middle of something. But, of course, all five of them were completely oblivious.

“We gotta go, man,” another said. “Your dad told us we’ve got training in the morning.”

Shit, I forgot about that.

“Training?” Reika echoed. “For what?”

He winced. They really should know better than to discuss this stuff in front of those not in the pack. Owen looked back at her, giving her ahopefullyconvincing smile.

“I’m a, uh … stunt double. For an action movie being shot on the Golden Gate Bridge tomorrow.”

Her eyes widened.

“Yeah.” His packmate slapped him on the shoulder again. “This guy’s gonna jump off the bridge tomorrow.”

“What?” she gasped.

Owen looked over his shoulder and stood, glaring at them all while waving his hands. “Why don’t I catch up with you guyslater?” All five of them exchanged knowing looks, clearly realizing they had more than overstayed their welcome. With another few waves of his hands, his packmates finally dispersed and left him and Reika alone again.

He sighed to himself.

What knuckleheads …

“Well,” she said, standing as well. “I should get going.”

Owen whipped around, feeling his heart lurch. He racked his brain for something to get her to stay and talk with him more. He watched helplessly as she collected her wine glass and lifted it, gently gesturing to him with it.

“Thanks for this, by the way. You didn’t need to buy me another one, but I appreciate it.”

He smiled a little. “It’s no problem. My fault for running into you.”
