Her ass sways as she walks back toward the house with Chloe. I can’t take my fucking eyes off her.

Fuck! I run a hand over my face and along my goatee, the freshly shaven skin still tingly.

What the hell am I doing?

She gets out of bed looking all cute and shit.

She comes over asking me to help tutor her, again looking all cute as shit.

And now tonight, dressed up like Sporty Spice- fuckkkkk, she’s killing me.

But I’m freaking her out. I can tell. I can’t let shit be awkward between us. She’s as much my best friend as Mason is.

Is it just me or does it seem like the more you ignore something the more prominent it becomes in your life?

She’s Madison. Plain and simple. And I need to keep it that way.

I’m not ready to head back inside just yet so I stay on the swing and enjoy the cool breeze.

My time alone doesn’t last long before Mason and a trail of people following behind him walk into the backyard. It’s our usual group of guy friends all dressed up in various costumes. My favorite is Remi’s, the zombie costume and makeup looking like something out of a movie.

“Bro I’ve been looking all over for you.” Mason fist bumps me. “Why are you hiding out here?”

“I’m not hiding. Just waiting for you.” I stand up and wobble on my feet, using Mason’s shoulder to steady myself. I raise my plastic cup to our group of friends. “Cheers.”

The group erupts into laughter and cheers as we toast to a good night.

Within a few minutes Madison and her group of friends are back and when everyone mingles together it looks like our own mini party. We take up most of the backyard.

Mason stands off to the side, his thumbs flying over his phone screen as he texts someone.

I join him and pretend to look over his shoulder and read his message. “Someone important?”

“Sienna. She’s freaking out because I got here earlier than her. Chicks, man.” Mason answers, his thumbs still working hard.

“She’s mad over that?”

“Something about wanting to walk in together. She’s dressed as my vampire queen and pictured us walking in together.” Mason smirks and we both laugh.

“Are you serious?” I shake my head. “Why do they care so much about the small shit?”

“If you figure it out let me know.” He pulls a joint out of his pocket and his eyes light up as he holds it out in front of me. “Take a few puffs with me?”

I nod and we walk away from the crowd and towards the back fence. Mason sparks it and inhales deep at the same time he lets out a sigh of relief.

He passes the joint my way and I almost don’t notice, my attention exactly where it doesn’t need to be.

Why does her ass have to look so damn good?

When the smoke fills my lungs, I feel my body relax.

We each take a few more hits before Mason puts the joint out and we rejoin the party.

Someone turns the music up and everyone is dancing and having a good time. I joke with Mason yet the entire time I’m keeping an eye on Madison.

The alcohol and weed make me feel bold and my question slips out.

“How are you two twins, when your sister is hot?” I half joke, but pretend I’m fully joking so he doesn’t notice shit.
