“What, you don’t think I am hot?” Mason says as he smooths down his ruffled shirt complete with a velvet vest. He pulls off the vampire look well.

“No, not even a little bit.” I make a face just as Mason elbows me in the side.

“And since when do you call my sister hot?”

“I don’t.”

“You just did.”

“I meant in her Halloween costume.”

“Right,” Mason says but he’s eyeing me like he doesn’t believe me. “But—”

He’s cut off by none other than his girlfriend, Sienna, who appears at his side. It’s been a bit rocky since our first meeting, but I’m grateful for her appearance this time, distracting Mason at the perfect time.

Sienna is decked out head to toe complete with blood running down her chin. It’s a bit over the top, but did I really expect any less from her?

Honestly, I was afraid of what Mason was going to say next. Something like why are you using the words hot and my sister in the same sentence?

Fuck, the less he wonders the better.

“Mason, silly! I couldn’t find you. Finally, my vampire king, we are reunited!”

Vampire king? Reunited?I snicker under my breath. What is this chick on?

Mason flashes me a funny face as Sienna pulls him away. Her mean muggin face isn’t lost on me but whatever. Doesn’t hurt my feelings.

With my partner in crime gone, I mosey my way over to the guys and try to distract myself from my thoughts.

As the party winds down, my head swims with all the alcohol flowing through my veins. Mason left with Sienna a while ago but I promised him I’d make sure Madison got home safe.

Too bad I can’t find her anywhere.

“Have you seen Madison?” I ask Chloe, her roommate, but she shakes her head.

“Not in a while. I was just about to go find her. We’re all ready to go but we don’t leave unless it’s together.” Chloe gestures at the rest of the girls waiting next to her.

I nod. “I’ll get her home if you wanna go ahead.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah, no problem. Have a good night ladies.” I set off to find Mads, surprised she veered off from her group of friends.

The house is more empty than earlier but it’s trashed, cups and empty liquor bottles covering every surface. I scan the living room and kitchen but there’s no sign of her.

And then I hear her before I see her.

“I said NO!” Madison yells and I sprint towards her voice, the sound coming from the back hallway.

Some loser has his hand wrapped around her arm and pulls her towards the stairs as she struggles to break free.

No one is around besides the two of them, as if the party suddenly disappeared.

But I wouldn’t care if there were swarms of people. My mind closes off to everything around and all I see is red.

“Did you not hear her? She said no!” I yell and push the guy away from her. He stumbles back against the railing and catches himself.
