“What happened?”

“On the way home from the restaurant, we were arguing.”

“Arguing about what?”

“You.”

My stomach free falls. “Me?”

She nods but offers nothing else.

It takes me a minute before I can even formulate one word, never mind a complete sentence.

“It doesn’t matter now. Come on, let’s get back before they start looking for us.” Madison says as she stands. She walks off without waiting.

My guilt triples in size.

He was mad.

Mason was mad.

Between the mess with Sienna and now finding this out.

How can I not feel responsible in some way?

But I push it down. I push it way the fuck down.

Because this isn’t the time or the place. Nor do we know the answers to all of those questions.

As much as we want to know, we’ll drive ourselves crazy wondering.

* * *

Back inside, I’m tempted to turn around and walk right back out.

It’s chaotic.

And who's in the middle of it all?

You guessed it.

Sienna.

She’s wailing, curled up into a crumpled mess on the floor.

I shake my head and sigh. As much as it makes me sound like an ass, I can’t be bothered with her. Not right now anyway.

And it looks like I’m not the only one.

Madison is sitting next to Chloe and they’re talking, foreheads almost touching. Tyler is next to Landon, and Holden and Remi are on the other side.

The round tables are large, seating ten people around, and I take the empty seat next to Madison.

I say nothing, no strength left to form words, my mind a jumbled mess.

The urge to leave is strong, but I know I can’t. Everyone from school took time to come here and I can’t just walk off and ignore people like a selfish prick.

But I can sit here and just exist. More drama unfolds around Sienna as people, mostly her little posse, gather around her. She’s still in the same position, her cries louder now.
