“Got ya!” Mase howls with laughter.

I spin around to find him doubled over in laughter, his partner in crime grinning like a fool.

“Please tell me you didn’t pull me out of bed for this.” I hold back my smile as I watch them sway back and forth as they try to control their laughter.

“Noooo,” Mason slurs. “We brought you a gift.”

I shake my head. “Oh no. I don’t want one of your drunk gifts.”

They both double over in laughter again and I can’t believe these two. I can’t even get mad at them for calling me.

I grab my phone from my back pocket and start recording.

They’re both still laughing, they don’t even notice.

I used to record their drunken high school antics all the time. And they loved bringing me gag gifts. Their drunken gifts they would call them.

You can imagine the shit they gave me. Whoopie cushions, fart spray, fake puke.

“Nah, just kidding, sis. This gift is good. Really good. See?” Mason holds out a bottle of vodka. “You’re gonna drink with us. Let’s go.”

I stop recording and put my phone away. “No. I have a huge weekend of studying ahead of me. Which is why I should be sleeping.”

“Aw Mads, don’t be a party pooper nerd.” Mason pouts, sticking his lip out.

“Hey, don’t call her a nerd,” Asher slurs. I shoot him a weird look. Since when does he stick up for me against Mason?

“Sorry, sorry. Nerds have to stick together.” Mason laughs but then hugs me. “You’re my favorite nerds. Don’t worry.”

I laugh and hug him back. Only my brother. He’s such a jokester, always throwing out the next jab, but not without a hug in the end.

“Mads, I’ll see you in the morning. You’re off the hook. Asher will drink with me.” Mason throws his arm around him and Asher claps him on the back. “Of course I will, buddy.”

Asher slurs the word buddy as he wobbles on his feet, taking Mason along with him. Hopefully they don’t fall down, something I’ve witnessed plenty of times and laughed my ass off.

“Well, that was fun. I’m so happy I got out of bed for this little fun visit.” I don’t hide the sarcasm in my voice but the huge grin on my face tells otherwise.

“It was fun, huh?” Mason laughs while Asher only shakes his head.

“Can I go back to bed now? The same place you two should go.” I start walking backwards but they don’t notice. Both of them are laughing so hard they’re doubled over. “Night you two.”

They finally stop for a second to wave at me but their antics pick right back up as they start walking in the opposite direction.

I turn and walk back to the steps of my apartment building. When I reach them, I look over my shoulder to find Mason talking with a few guys, but not Asher. He’s a few steps away from them and he’s watching me. Like he suddenly sobered up or something, a serious yet almost amused look stretched across his features. He’s waiting until I’m inside I assume, something I shouldn’t even be surprised by, but it’s the way he’s watching me.

It’s intense.

Like I can feel his eyes roam every inch of my skin and I suddenly feel so naked.

And exposed.

All of me.

The good and the bad.

I run up the stairs without another look back.

But I know I loved every fucking second of it.
