Page 70 of Kissed By Her

The boutique was packed with a group of women who were on vacation and obviously bored. One was trying on dresses and coming out as the others voted on which ones she looked good in. They were having a good time and as long as they spent money, I didn’t think Sadie cared if they made a lot of noise.

She was supervising and handing out glasses of champagne. It was something she did when a group came in that looked like they had cash to spend. Brilliant.

I quickly rushed the girls past Sadie, who waved and mouthed that she’d be with us as soon as she could.

Riley and Zoey followed me into the back, where the offices and the bathroom and the stockroom were.

In addition to the retail store, Sadie also sold her items online, and packing them up to ship was one of her most-hated jobs. She did delegate some of it, but she was currently behind and having the twins help out was free labor and taught them good responsibility. They didn’t see it that way, but I knew they really did love helping their mom. Her job was fun, unlike their dad’s.

“Okay, let’s see what we’ve got,” I said, pulling the stack of printed order forms that would go in the bags off the printer.

“Riley, I need an Audrey dress in purple, size XL,” I called out and Riley dashed to find the item. I gave Zoey an order too, and they’d race each other to see who could get the order done first.

The three of us had a good time and we made a dent on the stack before Sadie came back and leaned against the wall.

“They bought a decent amount, so I’m not complaining,” she said.

“These are all ready to go,” I said, patting the stack of orders that were ready to ship.

“You are an angel and worth your weight in gold,” Sadie said, coming over to kiss the top of my head.

“You are welcome,” I said.

“I don’t know what we would have done without you.”

I smiled up at her. “Ditto.”

“We’re hungry,” Riley said, slumping against a shelf of shirts.

“Oh, you are, are you?” Sadie said.

“Yes.”

Sadie made eye contact with me.

“They had lunch about an hour ago,” I said.

“We’re hitting a growth spurt!” Zoey said.

“Yeah!” Riley agreed.

Sadie laughed. “Okay, okay, go see what’s back there,” she said, pointing at the second office, which was also an employee break room and had a fridge with drinks and a basket with snacks.

They ran off and Sadie shook her head.

“You’re still not going to tell me about this big surprise, are you?” Sadie asked.

“My lips are sealed. I wouldn’t ruin it.”

Sadie sighed. “If this even involves me getting up on a stage, or performing or singing, I’m going to kill you.”

I burst out laughing. If there was one thing Sadie hated, it was being put on the spot in public.

“Don’t worry. There isn’t anything like that. It’s much more lowkey.”

“Can I get a hint?” she asked just as the twins burst back in with bags of chips and granola bars.

“Whoa, whoa, you do not need all that,” Sadie said, going to do her mom duties as the twins protested.
