Chapter Fourteen

I was absolutely floatingthe next day and I didn’t care who knew it. The twins were off to a theme park with some of their friends, so I spent most of the day wandering around Sadie’s house doing a few chores before going getting groceries and going back to Mark’s.

Honor and I had been texting all day, but I missed seeing her perfect face. Her ass wasn’t bad either.

I was still putting the groceries away when she came out for a glass of water.

“Good afternoon,” she said.

“Good afternoon,” I said, nodding my head in her direction as I closed the fridge. “May I get you something?”

“Layne don’t make this awkward,” she said, getting her glass of water. “Oh, and Mark was wondering if you could make him a coffee. He ran out of the pods.”

I searched the bags and pulled out a new box of Mark’s favorite coffee pods. “Voilà.”

“Oh, is this like a magic trick? Can you find me that pair of shoes I’ve had my eye on?”

I pretended to search the bags and then gave her a sad look.

“My powers only work for groceries, sorry.”

Honor sighed. “You tried, that’s the important part.”

“I did try,” I said, nodding.

Honor finished her water and lingered in the kitchen, watching me put away the groceries. I finished and folded up the bags and put them back in the drawer where they lived.

“So what are you doing this weekend?” she asked, and my heart leapt.

“I don’t know, why?” I asked, copying her pose on the other side of the sink.

“Because my sister has demanded that she wants to meet you.”

“Oh really? Well tell her that I would love to meet her.”

“Dinner okay?”

“Yeah, she can pick the place if she wants.”

“I’ll tell her that. She’ll be thrilled,” Honor said, and I inched closer to her.

“Cool. Can’t wait.”

I moved until our arms were touching.

“I really want to kiss you right now,” I whispered.

“I know,” she whispered back.

“Meet me in the downstairs guest bedroom in fifteen minutes?” I asked.

Honor glanced toward Mark’s office and then back at me, her face breaking into a smile. “Deal.”

She rushed back to the office and I started the countdown. Blood pounded in my veins as I waited for Honor to join me. As a pretense, I fluffed the pillows and messed with the bed and made like I was cleaning as I waited.

What felt like a thousand years later, there was a knock at the door, and I opened it to find Honor. I yanked her inside and shut the door.

“We should have come up with a secret knock,” I said.
