Page 80 of Kissed By Her

“My mom also considered boarding school, but she thought she couldn’t indoctrinate me properly from a distance, so I stayed closer to home.”

Yeah, Honor definitely needed to give therapy a shot, because that was fucked.

“I know I’ve said this a million times,” I said, standing up from the bench and holding out my hand, “but your mom is an absolute monster.”

This time, Honor took my hand after a short hesitation.

“I always thought she was just doing what was best for me, in her way. Her methods might have been harsh, but she wanted me to succeed and be taken care of.”

Honor gazed out at the rolling waves.

“Sorry. Didn’t need to drag the mood down.”

I squeezed her hand.

“You’re not. I can tell stories about my depressing family, too, if you want. To make things even.”

“No, that’s fine,” she said, pulling me toward the water. She rolled up her jeans and I did the same to my overalls. If Honor hadn’t already seen me in overalls a dozen times, I might not have worn them, but she had so there was no reason I couldn’t be comfortable. Maybe she liked the lesbian farmer look.

“Chilly,” I said, shivering as the waves washed over our feet.

“It’s not that bad,” Honor said.

“Do you come here to swim a lot?” I asked. “You know Mark would let you use the pool if you wanted. It’s heated and everything.”

“I know. I just prefer the ocean to any other body of water. Can’t explain it. Lakes seem like they have too many germs.”

“I’m pretty sure there are just as many germs in the ocean,” I said. “And isn’t there a giant ball of trash the size of Texas?”

Honor kicked water in my direction.

“Stop trying to ruin the ocean for me,” she said. “Or I’ll dunk you in it.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” I said, pointing at her and backing away.

“I might,” she said. “I’m considering it.”

“I will never speak to you again,” I said, exiting the water and backing up across the sand. Honor was taller than me, but I definitely had a few pounds on her, so I thought I could hold my own in a fight if it came to that.

“You’re no fun,” she said, sloshing along in the water next to me.

“I’m so much fun, what are you talking about?” I took her hand again but kept my eye on her. Honor was absolutely the kind of person who would lull you into a false sense of security before she struck.

Honor squeezed my hand. “You are fun. I think I forgot about fun. My sister is always annoying me to have fun. Or at least she was before I started hanging out with you.”

“So what you’re saying is that I’ve been I good influence on you,” I said, smiling.

“Okay now you’re smugandsatisfied,” she said, and I grinned at her. “And it’s adorable.”

She stopped me and leaned down to kiss me as I pushed up on my toes in the sand.

A rogue wave came up out of nowhere and soaked our ankles, making us both scream.

“The ocean doesn’t want us to kiss,” I said.

“The ocean can go fuck itself,” Honor said, capturing my lips again.

“How would that even work?” I asked when we started walking again. I was a little unsteady on my feet as a result of the kiss. Honor’s mouth scrambled my brain.
