‘We’ll talk about it later.’ I wasn’t going to let Cole go into too many details, especially with Jenna standing there.

Though it seemed I didn’t have a choice. ‘We’ll talk about it later, at dinner with my mom. That should be interesting.’ He bit my lip before I could break off the kiss.

‘Whatdinner with your mom?’ I stuttered. I didn’t remember any kind of dinner plans.

‘This smells like trouble.’ Jenna practically ran away before either of us could squeeze in a word. I guess she had learned her lesson.

‘We’re having dinner with my parents at 7 PM. Now go to classes before you’re late.’ Cole seemed to abandon me, too, leaving the second he finished his sentence.

‘Since when do you even care about my classes?’ I called out after him, uselessly trying to get his attention.

I did have an idea or two of what could get his attention, but we were still in a public place, and neither of them seemed like a good decision at the time, especially with all the extra sets of eyes looking our way.

For the first time in weeks, I managed to attend all my seminars and classes and mostly even pay interest to them. All of that between a lunch break interrogation from Jenna and a few stolen moments in the courtyard with Cole.

‘Ready?’ My king snatched the notebooks I was carrying to help me with the burden of the fifty paper sheets.

Not that I could complain.

His gesture was sweet, yet so unlike him. And that didn’t go without being noticed.

‘Oh, Cole baby, would you carry my undies for me?’ Jason came from behind us, catching up to walk with the same rhythm.

‘Shut the fuck up,’ Cole snarled, trying not to give him too much attention.

But it was like Jason was trying his best to piss him off. ‘Okay, baby, but don’t forget to get me some tampons on your way home.’

It was trouble.

I could feel it in every single one of Cole’s pulsing neck veins.

Reaching for his hand, I was planning an attempt to get him to keep his composure, but I was beginning to think thatColeandcomposuredidn’t belong in the same sentence. I managed to catch only the tip of his fingers as his body jerked in Jason’s direction, throwing him against the wall.

‘What the fuck is your problem?’ Cole groaned like a beast that was ready to rip his friend apart.

‘N...nothing.’ Jason was backing out from the fight like he wasn’t the one who was looking for it in the first place.

Not that the king of the EMA was going to let things be. ‘Speak!’ He felt that something was wrong with Jason for a couple of weeks. He mentioned it right before I returned to the Academy, but between politics and taking care of me, he never got the chance to do anything about it.

‘There’s nothing to say. I was just clowning.’ Jason’s voice cracked with fear. He knew too well what Cole was capable of, and crossing him was a bad decision at any time, no matter how it could come across.

‘I said speak.’ Cole’s hand closed on his throat, preventing his friend from doing just that— speaking.

I needed to do something before it could turn into one of his usual blood baths. Jason wasn’t on my favorites list, but I felt responsible for dividing their circle. I was beginning to think that Jason’s attitude was all about me having interfered in their lives.

‘Ease up on him.’ I tried pulling Cole away from over his friend, though my best efforts didn’t seem to get him to budge even an inch.

‘Back off, Bea. Remember what happened last time you tried to get me off someone.’ He was steaming mad, reminding me of the same scene with Ace.

And that was exactly the problem— Ace.

Jason snarled, trying to get away, ‘Don’t you see what she’s doing to us? You fucking sent Ace into exile because of her.’

Strangely, Cole seemed to be amused. ‘Don’t be a fucking drama queen.Exile?’He started laughing. ‘I didn’t send him to Mount Everest. I just cut him out of our circle.’

‘Because of her.’ Jason’s eyes ran in my direction.

‘Because of him.’ Cole’s tone was getting more aggravated with each breath of air he took. ‘You’re free to join him if you want. I’m not keeping anyone by force.’ He was perfectly aware that Jason would never choose to be an outcast over the power his current position provided. He just needed to put some sense back into him.
