Nix shrugs. “You never know. His wolf is pretty new to him.”

“I know him,” I say. “You do too. He wants to stay here. He thinks there’s room for more than one Alpha in Wolf Creek.”

“And it’s his personal mission to get Adrian and Sean to see that,” Nix says.

“Is that such a bad thing?”

“No. I just don’t see it happening,” he admits. “Wolves are territorial. Sean’s made it clear he intends to move on once his mate finishes up at the academy, so Adrian’s tolerating him, but his wolf won’t be happy until he’s out of here with his pack. The situation with Danny is kind of tricky. They’ve both been here their whole lives.”

Thinking about it ties my stomach into knots. Wolf Creek feels like home. I love it here.

We found a new apartment together. We’re happy.

I’m looking forward to starting at the academy next year, with Nix.

“Nothing’s going to happen anytime soon,” Nix adds quickly, reaching for my hand.

I entwine my fingers with his and feel his calming Omega touch ease my worries.

He leans in and his gaze locks with mine. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to kill the mood.”

“You can make up for it later,” I tell him, catching our Alpha’s scent on the breeze.

Nix gives me a wry smile. “I wish I could make up for it now.”

“You’ll be home before you know it,” I assure him.

I know that’s not entirely true. He’s as impatient as I am. Two hours can feel like a lifetime when there’s somewhere else you’d rather be.

He kisses me briefly before he lets go of my hand.

When he sighs and steps back, I see Danny coming toward us, crossing the street.

My heart starts to beat faster when he smiles at me.

This confident man in uniform with the easy smile and smouldering eyes is a far cry from the guy I first met in a tiny apartment all those weeks ago. He was exhausted then, worn out from some terrible, horribly traumatic events. When his dark eyes wouldn’t hold my stare, and he was lounging around in crumpled T-shirts looking deflated and numb.

He’s come so far, and his confidence really soared when he accepted his wolf.

“Hey,” he says, as he gets to us, his gaze moving from me to Nix and back again.

“Hey,” I echo back at him, already feeling my clit start to throb in his presence.

It really doesn’t take much to wake my heat, and Danny’s smouldering glances have the ability to soak my panties within seconds. He knows what he’s doing when he looks at me like that, I swear.

“I’ll let you two get moving,” Nix says, heading back into the shop. “Remember, later.”

I nod at him. He’d never let me forget, and I wouldn’t want to.

“Remember?” Danny asks, raising an eyebrow.

“It’s between me and Nix,” I tell him, reaching out to smooth my fingers over the cuff of his shirt.

Bad mistake. The instant I touch his clothing, his hand wraps around my back and tugs me in closer. I bump into him and a gasp leaks from my lips as the sudden sensation does strange things to my body. It feels like there’s a direct line from my stomach down to my clit that he just teased when he touched me. My panties dampen instantly, and my clit throbs wildly.

Danny groans lightly, his eyes closing for a second. When he opens them, he drops his arm and I fight back a moan of complaint. We’re outside Mason’s shop in broad daylight. Even I’m not crazy enough to think this is a good spot for indulging in my heat.

“Home,” Danny tells me, like it’s a command.
