“I just kind of want to forget about it,” I tell her. “But I wanted you to know. You deserve to know everything about me.”

She moves in front of me and takes my hand.

“Thank you for telling me.”

I raise my eyes to lock gazes. She still looks at me the same way as before, with warmth in her stare and a smile on her lips. I lean in and kiss her slowly. She lets out a soft sigh and I clear my throat.

“Is that Parker’s sweater?” I ask, knowing from the scent it’s left on her.

She nods and steps back, taking it off.

I can’t fight back the smile when I see Sean’s tank top underneath.

“I wondered where that got to.”

She flushes lightly as she takes it off.

“Better,” I tell her, now that she’s stripped off the things that belong to her other mates. “But the dress needs to come off too.”

She looks down. “It’s my dress. It only smells like me.”

“Well, I want to be the only thing that smells like you in another minute, so lose it or I’ll use magic to lose it for good.”

She strips quickly, almost getting tangled in her haste. I help her take it off and she steps out of her shoes. She still smells like Sean, and I kind of like it. God of Wolves, that’s fucked up.

She sits down on the bed, and I throw off my shirt before I sit down next to her.

“Dante?” she asks.

“Yes?” I ask.

“Will you teach me a spell?”

The earnestness in her voice makes my heart swell. I’ve had common ground with her that her other mates lack, and I’ve had it this whole time. I was just too dumb to realize it.

“I’ll teach you every spell you’ll ever need to know,” I promise. “But not tonight. Tonight’s just for being together.”

She leans in and kisses me, and I get lost in her desire.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Adriangivesmeaterse nod as I step into his bar. It’s been a few days since my pack rushed out to the woods with his to save a mutual friend. Things have felt less strained since that night, though we’ll never exactly be best friends. It’s not like we were anything close to that before, besides.

“Is Rachel around?” I ask, wanting to check in with his mate over something a little sensitive.

“She’s in the kitchen with Carter,” he tells me, a wry smile reaching his lips. “Just knock.”

He continues on with whatever he’s doing behind the bar. I walk past, to the back of the room where the kitchen door is closed. The bar itself seems moderately busy so I doubt I’m going to walk in on anything, but I take Adrian’s advice and knock all the same.

Carter tugs the door open a second later, and his dark eyebrows shoot up under his blue bangs.

“Oh. Hey, Deputy. What brings you out here?”

He’s blocking the door while he smiles like a mule who’s just been caught with a huge cache of drugs. I’m glad I knocked. I clear my throat and try not to listen to the harried sounds of his mate throwing her clothes back on.

“Actually, I was looking to speak to Rachel for a second if that’s okay?”
