Vi places the tray on the coffee table, and I try to resist.

Trouble is, there’s no more magical salt left.

I can’t make cornflakes taste like chocolate pudding anymore. My sweet tooth can’t be sated by healthier alternatives. So, I really should just avoid the cakes and go make a sandwich.

“Stop eye-fucking the baked goods and take one before you make them all inedible,” Everett murmurs, loud enough to make Vi snort.

I glower at him and lean back in my seat. “I’m not hungry.”

My stomach calls me a liar loudly in front of everyone.

Damn it. I get up. “Did you say there were sandwiches in the fridge?”

“Yeah,” Everett says. “But they’re not half as good as these.”

“These ones are melt-in-the-middle chocolate,” Vi says.

Holy hell that sounds incredible.

My stomach growls a second time.

I leave the room before I’m tempted any more by the tray of cakes.

Chapter Sixty-Four

Cheryl

Rachel’swaitingbythefront gates for me when I get outside. Everett will wait for me to come back to speak to Georgia. I need to know exactly what my best friend thinks of her story, and how much she thinks it could help us. I don’t like the idea of relying on someone else to help get Oscar out of this, but it does seem like a solid reason not to send an Omega to that town.

“Tell me everything,” I say as I lean against the wall next to her.

“There’s not too much to tell,” Rachel says. “She said the Alpha uses the women as breeders. He looks for them to produce Omegas and Alphas, so you can guess what that means.”

“He’s the only one to mate with them.”

“Right. Now, if they were actually his mates and the kids weren’t being taken away if they turned out to be rare, it would be a completely different story, but clearly that’s not the case. Georgia was scared to ask for help, and she hesitated to say yes at first when we went back and spoke to her. I think she’s only here for the sake of her kid.”

“Makes sense,” I tell her. “You’re not sure she’ll want to tell Mabel when she comes back.”

Rachel shakes her head. “I think she’ll be too afraid, but I can tell her story for her. What’s happening there needs to be investigated either way.”

Either way. Whether or not the witch deems it safe for Oscar to be taken by the other pack.

“Oscar mentioned something before. I need to ask another favor,” I say, giving her a wry smile when she looks my way. “He may have been influenced by the ghost of Everett’s jealous ex.”

She raises an eyebrow. “Seriously? Does he think he was possessed?”

“Possessed. As in taken control of by a spirit?”

“Exactly. It could explain the blackout, and what happened during it.”

Oh my Goddess. Could that be the answer we’ve been looking for?

“Can we cast a spell to find out? I was going to ask if Silas could call on the ghost and question her.”

“He can definitely do that,” she says. “Maybe we should do that first. Do you have her full name?”

“Bianca Springer. Everett killed her when she tried to kill us, a few months ago.”
