He shrugs. “That’s my name now. We decided.”

“Ever… Every’s the cook,” I agree.

They get up and follow me out into the hall.

“Noah should be down soon too,” I tell them.

Rachel comes downstairs in the same clothes she was wearing yesterday.

“Can’t believe I slept so late,” she tells us.

“Do you need to go out back?” I ask.

She nods. “That would probably be smart. I didn’t even think about replenishing my magic yesterday.”

“You guys do that,” Everett says. “We’ll be in the kitchen.”

“Eating cake,” Leo adds, giving me a defiant look as they pass.

I can’t help laughing. Rachel joins me.

“Looks like someone’s got your Alpha wrapped around his finger.”

“Well, Everett can deal with it when he’s bouncing off the walls from the sugar rush.”

“That’ll teach him,” Rachel says. “My phone actually woke me. Silas has had a visit from Bianca. Actually, he had a couple of visitors. We should talk about it outside.”

I blink at her. “Did something happen?”

“We don’t need to rush out of here, but we definitely need to talk.”

I remind myself today’s going to be good. It doesn’t really work to calm me down.

I lead Rachel outside and close the door behind us.

“What did Bianca tell Silas?”

“The Alpha locked Oscar in a closet last night. He hasn’t touched him at all, and she snooped around a little, but she didn’t find anything else out. She spoke to Oscar in his dream, though, and he doesn’t want you or Everett to challenge the Alpha. He thinks it’s too dangerous. That we’re missing something. He’s worried one of you will get hurt.”

“This is why she went to Silas, because Oscar asked her to tell us not to come for him?”

Rachel nods. “It seems so. Silas said she seemed like she was telling the truth. He said she seemed annoyed with Oscar, but she was going back to keep watching over him like she promised even if he was being stupid.”

“Sounds like Bianca,” I tell her.

“He wouldn’t have called me until he woke me up for that message,” she tells me. “He knows we’re doing this, no matter what. It was the other visitor that made him call me.”

“Another ghost came to him?” I ask.

She nods. “A woman with dark hair and blue eyes. She said she needed to speak to you.”

“To me?” I ask, thinking of the woman Vi said she dreamed about. She had dark hair.

“He said he could pass a message along, but she was insistent that it had to be directly to you.”

“Can we do that?” I ask, wracking my brain. “We don’t know any necromancer spells.”

“We don’t, but I called Amanda. She’s going to get Dante to speak to his sister.”
