Congrats, New Alpha. You’ve won this round of Would You Rather.

I’m willing to put up with other shit to avoid this punishment next time.

I’ll find a way to cope with it, whatever it is.

I pace around in the tiny space until my dead leg wakes up, and then I pace around some more while my stomach grumbles and my wolf itches to be unleashed so I can break the stupid door down.

I think about it more the longer I’m stuck in the closet.

Probably would have been smarter to think about breaking the door down and making a run for it last night. Maybe I could have gotten away while the Alpha was sleeping. If I run now, he’ll probably catch me. Well, maybe not personally. I’m sure he has guards to do his grunt work.

I stop pacing and lean against the wall.

I can’t do it. I can’t try to run.

Where would I go, exactly?

I couldn’t go back home. He’d find me there, and it would cause more trouble for my pack. Even if I didn’t go back there, it would cause trouble for them, because this asshole Alpha would assume it was where I went.

I’m stuck, waiting to be released from this closet, assuming he ever decides to let me out.

This can’t be his main plan.

I’m going to have to wait around if I want to find out what that is.

Even if I don’t want to know, I need to stay put and find a way to endure whatever’s coming next.

I sit back down, this time crossing my legs under me.

It’s marginally more comfortable than sitting with my knees bent again.

I ignore my bladder telling me it’s time to use the bathroom.

I ignore my stomach telling me it’s past time for breakfast.

I concentrate on taking slow, deep breaths.

I wait. It’s all I can do now.

Chapter Ninety-Two

Cheryl

Everettmakesawholebunch of sandwiches again, using up most of the remaining bread and cold meat supplies. The salad was used up yesterday, along with the last of the potato chips for late night snacks, and we’re all out of fruit now too. It’s a good thing Leo and everyone else is happy with cupcake snacks because we don’t have much of anything else.

Grocery shopping is going to be the priority after we get Oscar back.

We gather in the lounge, and Noah appears, looking as neatly groomed as always.

“What time are we leaving?” he asks quietly after he kisses my cheek.

He sits down beside me, and I realize we didn’t discuss the timing last night.

Leo’s busy playing around with the jukebox since Everett plugged it back in, but I really don’t want him to overhear us talking about taking down the man his mother calls Alpha.

I shrug at Noah. “We’ll talk after lunch.”

He nods, waves at Rachel sitting next to me. “Does it feel weird being away from your mates overnight?”
