She swallows the bite of her sandwich and wipes her lips. “Definitely. It’s the first time I’ve been gone for the night since we got together. It was bound to happen sooner or later. I think I’m dealing with it way better than my guys.”

She shows us her phone. She has twenty unread messages. “This is since we started eating.”

Noah laughs. “I think we’d be the exact same way if Cheryl was gone overnight.”

“What’s that about Cheryl being gone overnight?” Everett asks as he places another platter down.

“Nothing,” I tell him. “We were just talking about Rachel being away from her mates overnight.”

“So, you’re not going anywhere?” he asks.

“I wasn’t planning on it,” I tell him.

“Thank Apollo for that,” he says. “Though if you were going somewhere overnight, I’d go with you.”

“This wasn’t even planned,” Rachel protests.

He shrugs. “Other way around, if Cheryl called to say she was staying I’d be on the road two minutes later.”

“It’s a long trip,” I remind him. “Longer than visiting my parents.”

“I know how long it is.”

I shake my head, but I can’t wipe the smile from my lips. He means it. One hundred and ten percent.

“I’m actually kind of surprised Carter didn’t steal Adrian’s car,” Rachel admits. “He’s been considering it, according to his texts. He’s giving me until the end of the day to get back home first, apparently.”

“Well, it’ll be good news for Adrian’s car when you get home later,” I tell her.

“Better watch out for that spontaneous orgasm thing though,” Noah says.

Rachel’s mouth drops open, and I feel my cheeks flushing pink.

Ivy and Vi give each other a questioning look, before Ivy asks, “What spontaneous O-R-G-A-S-M thing?”

Everett draws Noah a glower. “There’s a kid in the room.”

Noah blinks slowly. “Fu… I forgot.”

“Explain,” Ivy says. “If there’s something I’m missing…”

Rachel sighs. “It’s a multiple mates thing. If you’re… apart… for too long just being in their presence gets kind of intense.”

“Oh,” Ivy says, her eyes going wide. “Oh. You’ve been away… Right. None of our business. But wow. That’s… something.”

Noah makes a vaguely apologetic face at Rachel. “Sorry, I’m not used to being around other people at home anymore. It’s usually just us guys and Cheryl.”

“It’s fine,” Rachel says, shrugging. “It’s actually kind of nice to know it happens to someone else too.”

She goes back to eating, and I shake my head at Noah.

He gives me a guilty shrug. He really wasn’t thinking when he said it.

Everett turns to Leo. “Hey, Kid. Get over here and eat.”

The kid comes rushing over and crashes to a halt next to Everett. “Aw, there’s no cake.”

“This is better than cake,” Everett tells him. “It’ll make you big and strong.”
